If our UI is a spreadsheet...

...can it at least be a good spreadsheet?

1. How about a live text-filter box on the overview? Type in a few characters to quickly filter down a long list by text match.

2. Somebody in another thread has already suggested being able to tear-off overviews so that more than one can be on the page at a time. I just assumed I could do that the first time I looked at the tabs and was a little ticked-off when I could not.

3. How about we create more complex overview filters more along the lines of the ones that you can use in the inventory window? I've always wanted the ability to create minor SQL-like filters for coloration:

Background Yellow:
Rule: if (securitycode < 0) AND (shiptype != 'freighter')

I don't care if I have to edit the rules in an external text file, I'd love the ability to write smarter overview filters. (Actually that would probably be better since CCP will undoubtedly butcher any rule-builder UI.)

(Edit: Almost forgot)

4. How about we add bookmarks to the spreadsheet so you can show/hide them by bookmark category? That bookmark system is so kludgy, I feel that should be a whole other topic, however....

In short, if the main UI has to be a spreadsheet (which I can live with), let's make sure that the inhabitants of the distant future have access to the MOST BASIC features of a spreadsheet please.

Thanks!

Because it creates a potential advantage for those who know how to write effective queries.

That's as stupid as saying that you have a potential advantage playing the game if you're good with maths.

Worse, because no one can make me better at math, but I might buy a decent overview setup with hot wriggling ISK.

How is this different than anything else in the game? There are dozens of tools that help with trading and industry, some of which are paid with isk. There are tools to help with fittings, you can get fittings from other people, etc. Hell people already have overview packs that are an advantage over the default overview.

Your argument holds absolutely no validity.

Actually you just backed up my statement. I was agreeing with Kenji Noguchi, that Iain Cariaba's statement was stupid.

There may be a good reason to leave the tools we use weak and dumbed down, but someone using them well isn't one of them. Especially in this where that person could profit by selling his expertise.
