Faster server ticks for non-space features

I think during Fanfest one of the developers mentioned that they were thinking about increasing the server tick speed with the new hardware, but that it would fundamentally change a few key aspect of how things work in EVE, so it would have to be carefully considered.

However, I wonder - could we perhaps get faster server ticks for non-space features, like markets, the industry, hangars, contracts, chat, etc? Perhaps even decouple those things from the simulation of ships in space so for example, TiDi would not affect the market and so on?

This would improve the gameplay for some people - traders, doctrine resuppliers, industrialists, etc. - while not affecting the core PVP aspect of the game. This could serve as both a first step towards possible faster server ticks in the future, and as an overall game improvement regardless of whether combat server ticks are increased or not.

You can't decouple TiDi from Industry.

That would promote using TiDi to tank DPS.

I'll admit there was some hyperbole in there that got lost in translation from thought to post. Given the timescale that most industry jobs are on, increasing the tick rate is pointless.

Anyway, my logic was that when sieging a tower/cit/etc, ships subject to TiDi would do proportionally less damage over the lifetime of the build job.

Roast away.

So if you're attacking a structure that's building a super and it's almost finished, the defenders can try and trigger tidi to help it finish before the structure goes down.

Makes sense to me that any time related process be subject to tidi.

EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided"

Daichi Yamato's version of structure based decs

Uhh. They are decoupled? The tick is _purely_ the physics simulation.

Woo! CSM XI!

As a player with an internet connection that struggles to keep up with the 1 second ticks in many cases I hope they do not change it ever. Even if they could change it as you suggest / question it would still be horrible because the delays caused by my connection would give others an advantage in the markets that I cannot overcome or even work around.

If CCP changed everything to less than 1 second ticks they would loose me as a player and at least a dozen others that live in my area. Are we the only ones with the problem? Considering that we are kept on the slow lane to the internet because it is not profitable for the companies to invest in the infrastructure needed to upgrade our speeds because distance and low population density it is unlikely.
