No, it's just that only 3 ****** Antiviruses out of 56 think that "maintenancetool.exe" is a virus.

Nothing to worry about.

All 3 are terrible AV products

Note how none of them agree on what the virus actually is. Heuristics are not infallible. Panda Endpoint Protection once flagged itself as a virus.

Yeah, false positives can be an issue with AV programs.

Never even heard about that rootkit, exploit, trojan, worm collection software which calls itself that way but congrats on acquiring it.

I would recommend a support ticket with the name and version of the anti-virus pointed out specifically. CCP is a software producer after all and it's not uncommon for software publishers to work with anti-virus producers to work out such conflicts.

I experienced a similar issue with Kaspersky AV flagging maintenancetool.exe as harmful when I updated to the new launcher. Other folk have made CCP aware of the issue.

They're responding to a very generalized definition of virus.
"Possible threat." Most guys say that about their wives.

As CCP is aware and investigating now, please lock the thread!

We're investigating this and hope to have a process in place to catch false positives ourselves soon.

What do you expect them to say? You seem to insist the problem is with EVE's files and not the so-called virus software you have decided must be good or "they" wouldn't let them call it virus software....or some convoluted scenario
such as this.

Everyone who has responded to your post has given you factual information. The most salient fact is: You get what you pay for. If you want free virus software, expect that quality of service. Rather than accept that fact, you'd prefer to call EVE's software, and CCP's work into question. So, that convinces me you aren't really after a solution to anything.

You're just trying to be the guy on the internet that fingered EVE for pedaling a virus.

If I were CCP I'd ban your IP on general principle.

If we get chased by zombies, I'm tripping you.

You have a TREMENDOUS problem understanding what exactly is factual information!
Almost ALL comments you are refering to were opinions based more on feelings than facts. I will give you an example of what constitutes as factual information:

1. More than 317 million new pieces of malware -- computer viruses or other malicious software -- were created in 2014
2. Virus protection producers have no way of catching all of these, some viruses will be detected months later and only by some Virus protection software. Some viruses that dont spread too wide, will be never found.
3. There are huge amount of viruses that are only detected by some of the virus protection tools and not by others, that problem INCLUDES all the "high end" virus portection software.
4. If you rely only on one "high end" virus protection software there will be a lot of new viruses that you still have no protection for or will get protection much later after virus have started spreading!!!
5. in such harsh cyber world we are living in, its humanly impossible for CCP or any other company to avoid 100% getting some virus threat in their office/development computers and into released software, one can only hope it does not occur.

Not in this case. This is not a old furniture or old book! Or any old collection not sure if it is 98 however i don`t think so more a classic skin tbh. Still i do not see why you do stick with old stuff. Its like your driving a old car. Without safety belts because that was not installed in your car in that time........ It will not say its better but it is safer. Old software vs new software is same. Not better but safer. Using a condom twice will not say it`s better because it`s fits better. But the protection is lesser. :) you got the point there. If it is a old skin (aka 98 classic) in windows 10 then ok why not. But if not.....
