I've been primarily concerned with Industry, Research, and Planetary Interaction. But, as I've been building ships and browsing the ship tree, I've discovered a fondness for those Logistics ships.

Now, I'm relatively inexperienced when it comes to combat flying (a combination of crafting obsession and general cowardice). But, at a glance those Logistics ships look like they're intended to repair other ships out in space. Am I correct in that?

If that's the case, then are Logistic pilots in demand at all? Obviously I just sort of build/sell things in my own little private corporation, but would there be circumstances where a Logistics pilot would be valued in a fleet? Or has PvP evolved to the point where Logistics ships have little-to-no impact?

Any feedback, information, or advice in this area would be greatly appreciated.

One thing I would recommend is that you chose to work with Shield or Armor transfers, and focus on those first.

If you want inspiration you could go look at some of Rooks & Kings' youtube videos (called Clarion Call IIRC) for inspiration. They are getting a bit dated (carriers with remote reps for instance) but good watching.

For a laugh you could even join a highsec PVE corp and propose a RR PVE evening. Everyone in a plated BS with reps provided by a Guardian team or in a passive shield BS with some Basilisks repping.

The fit below works for Logistics 4 and good (but far from perfect) fitting and armor skills but is tight.

99% of the PvP pilots want to deal out damage.
Pilots that want to fly Logi are rare, but EVERYBODY LIKES THEM.
Many corps will even pay for your ship, or cover the difference from insurance payout.

Except Killmails, obvs

If you want to ease yourself into logistics, you could also run them in incursions. They need logi as well, and you make quite a bit of isk running them. Most incursion groups seem to be shield based, so a basi or scimi would be the way to go if you want to try that route out.

Logi IMO is one of the most fun challenging tasks in EVE. It is somewhat a thankless job as you will usually not have many killmails to show for it. but it is super satisfying when you land that saving rep on a fleet mate.

Reps is simply short for 'repairs'.

'Giving reps' = remote repairing another player with your logi ship.

'Broadcast for reps' = when a player in a fleet signals that he needs repairs, via an in-game command that makes his request visible to all fleet members (and logibros in particular) in the 'fleet broadcast history' window

Most ship will indeed not fly away from your rep range as fast as drones and dedicated logistic ships also have the benefit of range bonus to prevent this partially. Past that, it's kind of a team game where you will try your best to keep your fleet mate at range while your fleet should have enough brain power to understand your range is not unlimited and that they might be on their own if they fly far away.
