It needs to cost about 750 million and do basically the same stuff my existing POS does

Edit - Its a question

Agree that there should be a better option especially since these structures are balanced around d your assets being essentially safe (so why ahould the defenses be as beefy, right?)

Plus I see a lot of start up corps living well out of a medium.. I see the threat of eviction by bored wormhole corps az large or greater than for these corps with the new citadels... the barrier to entry to 'live' in wh space feels way too high for new corps without solid isk making skills.

Edit - from my phone. Typos exist.

I believe the maythorn corporation started in a wormhole. And they had this idea of just building everything from scratch, aka pioneering.

They did manage.... How I have no clue.

Don't quote me on the name it was a few years ago.

Wormholes are a higher bar. Perma loss, no local, no jump freighters, complicated transit, no bounties, etc. yes it's made to be difficult.

Yaay!!!!

Let me try to explain what the new Citadels feel like as replacements for the Towers

Imagine that after they took away the logi role from carriers and handed over your new carrier version 2.0 they didn't add force auxiliaries.

With the way medium citadels are blowing up left, right and center, i wouldn't bother until fortizars are readily available because all things considered, a large faction tower is still a better option, sort of.

I have an even cheaper alternative than a POS anyways.. Mobile Depot \o/

Citadel's are a bad alternative to a POS, I won't be putting one up anytime soon.

As a solo player I feel like I'm getting shut out if WH space.

concerning the defense ? where ?
what I see so far is ccp avoiding to say anything despite all the forum posts that signal the incapacity of a citadel to take down one lousy battleship.

I believe Maker is referring to the "solo player" part.

I may be weird, but the price on the medium citadels has fallen to 2.2B. That's more than a tower with defenses, etc, but it's certainly not unreachable even for a solo player. I can't imagine the levels of masochism needed to play Eve solo though.

Fact of the matter is that the towers aren't going away in the short term, I'd adopt a wait and see outlook.

Eve solo is actually a lot of fun, I travel for work a lot and kept getting inactive notices or even kicked for being unavailable for weeks at a time. This way I get to play when I want and how I want.

But it is getting harder. Citadel's aren't too expensive for me. They are just too much risk. I can't leave a citadel for a week at time because it can't defend itsel (even when manned). That effectively evicts me from w-space, and I only live in a c4 and a C2.

Two whs solo? That seems like work.

I get the adapt or die stuff, and yet I still feel like were getting the shaft. I mean we've got this thing that took years of development and instead of 'this is cool,' I feel like its more of a.. who kicked my dog?

eh, one is PI, one is for fun, its not so bad. I was originally hope to base out of the c2 but there is too much traffic and not enough content. So I might give it up if the C4 works out better.

well said! It really bothers me that CCP is willing to hire a guy dedicated to understanding our mindsets and retain some of the 1.5M new players that tried EVE last year while at the same time continously making the game harder and harder for new people and solo players to get engaged.

I don't think they understand that when they say, "we want people to play our game a certain way," what that translates to is "play it our way or play a different game."

There isn't any middle ground here.

Hate to break it to you but your POS isn't defensible either by itself. I guarantee you that if someone wanted to shoot you during that week you were gone, your POS would be dead. There is this very flawed presumption that a POS is somehow "safe".

HP is a deterrent. Timers are a deterrent. These are all things that make it so people don't bother shooting your tower.

No one currently is shooting *live* Citadels. Not one has been killed after it has been anchored. Either people can't be bothered to shoot one for 3 days or the Citadels are defending themselves. It is probably more the former than the later as Citadel anti-subcap guns (since you mentioned C4 and C2) have killed a very small number of ships with many being from the same corp obviously testing the guns.

36 *anchoring* Citadels have been killed. 24 of those have been in wspace.

This doesn't mean wpsace is inherently worse off for Citadels either. It means that the people putting them up couldn't defend their space properly and as noted before, to CCP that is "working as intended". I do believe they had every intent to make things harder for solo players who had no ability to actually defend their stuff and only lived in it through the sheer annoyance of shooting a POS. In that sense things have gotten a bit easier to remove those people though many still won't bother randomly.
