I would love to be able to split my overview into two windows, having different tabs viewable on each. For example, one for ships and another for gates.

Very good idea. Suggested same few years ago. Personally i needed that for online streaming to be able hide exact window with gates on video while roaming in 0.0.
also asked for hiding highlits on objects. gates, or stations etc. that could declassify my location, cos stream 5 min delay sucks.. )What?

Also very hard to find gate when a lot of ships present in overview. i know that i can switch tabs but its not that cool as if i had separate tab.
