i have trouble scanning systems due to not being able to see the red dots behind the blue sensor globes around the probes. i was wondering if any of you experience the same thing or have a work around i have not discovered yet?

to the devs i was wondering if their could be a colorblind mode put in for us color blind pilots?

The short answer is no there is no colour blind mode.

The long answer is myself and others have banged on about this problem ever since they removed the colour slider way back when. For me the colour red is almost none existent which means colours like pink, orange and red have little or no meaning or appear as a completely different colour than that seen by a colour normal person .

We have provided links to web site showing how colour blindness effects our perception of the world around us and how different types of monitors give different views of the same scene but it’s all landed on not exactly deaf, but hard of hearing ears.

The final straw for me is the continued insistence by the developers to use red in so many parts of the UI in particular on the tiny icons either on the overview or in space. So many of the things I used to do are now either beyond my visual acuity or simply not worth the hassle of devising workarounds to continue enjoying the game.

I wish you all the luck in the world in getting something done but sadly it is unlikely I shall be here to enjoy the change.

There was a thread that brought up the topic of it posted a while back but not much came from it. Also has been other topics about it but unfortunately it still gets neglected.

Your best bet would be to post it on Reddit, and if by chance it gains some traction there, the devs will probably be more likely to look into it.

Either that or make a ticket, but you've probably already done that.

Yeah my friend talked to me about that not while ago. But he finds dot again by hovering mouse over the site name that shows on Probe Scanner. That will bring name of dot and you can find it back.

It also helps that before you stand scanning ignore all other results except site you plan to scan. If you found something you dont want then ignore it and click another site on ignore list so that new dot (site) will pop up and other dots wont mess you up.

im rather good at scanning and do like the direction the scanners are going, the only thing keeping me from being excellent at it is the colorblindness.

i spend more time than others in my corp scanning because i have to constantly try to find the dots by moving camera angles and a plethora of other remedies.

Being able to change the colors to more visible colors for me would help tremendously. for 90% of the players im sure this is a non-issue and i can putter along as it is now but i do hope that some day there is a way to fix this. or perhaps some one could make a third party app than can do what im asking.

im just trying to get it out there and hope it gains traction.

Sadly it boils down to the only thing "really important" these days, money.

I'm pretty sure they can fix this for color blind but 'money' x 'man-hours' = 'we have other things to do'.

I am Colour Blind to Red as well and have trouble with the same thi gs your listing.

Almost every game nowadays comes with at least the most common of colour blindness corrections and some even target several specific and rare types of colour blindness.

Dont see why this would be a problem to implement as many 3rd party modders make colour blind mods for games lacking them as well.

+1.

I also made a colour blind topic a long time ago on another account, nothing ever came from it...

Actually, I'm not sure it's that simple. Making services more accessible is good business as it can create very positive pr, see an uptick in users from those groups who can now use your service positively, and stops negative pr and comments online. Sure it can take some time and man hours to implement but the benefits are usually measurable and positive.

In the case of colour-blindness, the numbers are pretty huge. In the UK alone you're looking at 2.7million people who are affected. It affects around 8% of all men and 1 in 200 women across the world. Chances are this is causing problems for a large number of users in Eve or putting people off subscribing. If we look at the numbers (roughly), according to a quick google search 96% of eve players are male and there are 500k subscribers (i know many will be alts but this is just a rough example). So that's 38, 500 paying customers who could be affected by this issue, or a potential lost income stream of £4.6 million ($6.6million) a year if they all decide to unsub.

How much would it cost just to change the colours in the UI?

system scanner is not just bad for color blind people, its terrible for normal vision people too.
Bad UI is bad IU.
The red dot is so dark and its covered by other obstacles in the UI very quickly that makes me even furious sometimes.

very old problem but as usual, CCP once again is unable to spend a little time on fixing low hanging fruits like that.

maybe if we can get enough people to see this then maybe something can happen. ccp is a good company, ive been playing this game in all its forms since 2003, they do listen to the player base.

i know its a long shot, but long shots hit the mark every now and then

If first person shooters can change the red and green hues so colorblind people can tell them apart with relative ease, why can't CCP just do it too? Its not like the knowledge to do it isn't there.

Yeah. They already have the legacy code for changing the colors of the UI. It shouldn't be too much trouble to modify it for things that affect colorblind players.

I'm not even colorblind but would use it if we could modify the colors to individualize our scanning interface.

I am now wondering if I'm colourblind although I was not when tested many years ago. I really liked scanning and spent most of my time on it, but now it strains my eyes trying to find the red dots. Even changing the red from #110000 to #220000 would be a vast improvement*.

I used to do a lot of scanning, and I was struggling with the little red dots. I thought it was a UI problem. Few weeks ago I found out that am color blind, no wonder I was struggling.

I actually have pretty good colour vision but the red dots still get swamped by the bright blue probe globes sometimes. Scanning is much easier these days, but the interface could still use some work.

And while you are at it do something about the blinding nebulae / stars in some of the missions / combat sites. I like to look at my ship, not play zoomed out to the max just to see what's going on.
