Why does buying 6 PLEX say it offers savings when in fact it doesn't?

Hey all o/

So I just had a little windfall from a PayPal class action settlement and the check was enough for me to want to spend money on some PLEX.

So I went over to the account management section and took a look at prices. Apparently 6 PLEX are $104.97, which doesn't seem to be a deal at all. That is just $34.99 multiplied 3 times. And if I recall correctly, PLEX when they came out were $34.99 for two. So that's basically the going price.

Are there actually deals anywhere? Thanks!

They occasionally go on sale from CCP directly - you just have to wait for the sale times.

"Usually" there is a sale for fanfest which is next week. So hopefully there will be discounts on PLEX packages then.

In addition if you are American (sadly nothing for us Canucks, Auzzies or EU folks) Amazon is the US sometimes has very good deals on PLEX.

Cheers

Does it say "Discount!" or does it say "Discount compared to the price of 2 PLEX specifically"?

Because comparing to the price of a single PLEX, it is a discount. And so is the 2-plex package, compared to 1 plex. The fact that it's the same discount across all packages doesn't make it "not a discount".

But these aren't discounts. The single PLEX is a BAD deal, the rest are just increments of $34.99 for two PLEX which was the original going price when they came out. They since then have added one bad buy which is 1 for $20, so why do they make it seem like we're saving $5 per PLEX when in fact there is no difference in PLEX to dollar ratio from 2 to 28?

I agree with you totally - they 'used' to have discounts in increasing amounts based on the number you buy. Now they are after the 1 PLEX just the same price whether you buy 6, 12 or 28.

Someone in CCP land needs to realize that if they want to encourage larger purchases the per unit price should decrease (even if only slightly) when you purchase more.

They changed this last year sometime and there were a lot of rage threads and comments about it back then. But yes the only time now when they are actually on sale is when CCP now has a sale on them. Its nickel and diming players sure but they are a business at the end of the day and their decisions are mostly in favor of the monetary side these days.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

Never have understood Plex, seems like it's another game, or should be, anyway. I just fly my ships, try to stay alive and marvel at what all goes on in this game.

Maybe CCP doesn't know how to business? Their pricing department needs to stop selling at extortionate prices, or at least bring more monacles and top hats that say "I'm rich you're not". This comment was more about the "micro"transactions but it's the same thing, they can't put sensible prices on stuff.

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

You know what saves money? Not buying 6 PLEX regardless of cost.

However, compared to the price of buying the PLEX individually, all multiple packages are cheaper, hence there are 'savings' to be made, but nowhere near as good as saving all of the money by not wasting it on PLEX to begin with.

So PLEX are not toilet paper; the basic package isn't "double the sheets" compared to some imaginary reduced roll that they'll never sell. The basic package is 1 PLEX, and that's the base price. Do you want CCP to prove to you the meaning of the term "discount" by taking it away? Cause they totally can. Since it's a discount. For their product. On their website.

PLEX is a method whereby successful in-game characters can actually use in-game funds to pay for their 'pilots license'. They are bought and sold on the market.

I can't really imaging a scenario where I'd buy PLEX on the market only to turn around and sell it again other than if I was gambling on a market increase in PLEX value. Thus most PLEX on the market are put there by people turning RL cash into in-game ISK. I know many folks save up earned PLEX for a rainy day (like a bank note) but again, it may not be worth more than what you bought it for so that works if you have a couple of bad months in a row or something.

That's PLEX in a nut shell. Hope that helps you understand it a bit better. Maybe I screwed it all up...

You American's get a good deal compared to us UK players, we have to pay VAT at 20% on top of the listed price. Taking exchange rates into account you guts would be well on your way to another Plex before we've even paid for one.

CCP should consider adjusting prices for UK players to bring it level with other international/US prices because we're paying significantly more than others when you consider those factors.
