If you can't handle someone putting a meaningless number on your game character for something you said, you leaving is probably for the best. You need a thicker skin for Eve.

May the next game you try be gentler!

I did not know that. Why did they changed it? It would be better that way imo.

No, you don't need negative standing to have a bounty on you. My main has positive standing and has had a bounties. They've been collected and I don't have a new one. Nobody likes me.... OopsSad

The DEVs removed the restriction because they realized that there are many, many ways to commit "crimes" or do generally terrible things without losing security status.
More than that... "good guy" and "bad guy" are relative.

Some examples:

- A guy in your corporation/alliance is disgruntled. He has access to pretty much all the corp hangers. He steals everything and walks away from the corporation/alliance.
Corp/Alliance theft does not affect your security status. The thief in question may have a 5.0 security status. Under the old system, you could not place a bounty on him. But now you can. And so you place a bounty on the thief.
------------- The thief responds by placing a bounty on all his former corp/alliance mates. In his eyes, you were all douchebags and the reason he left in the first place.

- You are peacefully mining in a belt. You see another mining vessel inching close and closer to you. You do not recognize this player. He has never been in this belt before. He has a positive security status and is in and NPC corp. There is nothing unique or interesting about his profile.
Then, when the player is less than 2km from your ship squad of Catalysts comes out of warp right on top of both of you. The Destroyers target and blow YOU up. The other player is unharmed.
Obviously that other miners was either an alt character or a friend of the ganker. Under the old system, he would be untouchable. But now you can slap a bounty on his face!

Please note that a bounty does not make a player a legal target anywhere in the game. It is a separate from the aggression and combat mechanics.
All a bounty does is offer a nice little prize if you decide to kill said player.

Btw. Is it possible to put a bounty on a newborn pilot?

Yes. It is.

And I know where you are going with this.
Even though bounties really do not do much... making newbies "immune" from bounties for ___ amount of time sets a precedent and opens up a Pandora's Box of other things that newbies probably should be "immune" from.
And then the veterans will come in, make brand new alt characters/accounts, and take full advantage of those protections.

Thanks for making that clear for me. I get it now. You are right. It works how it is now.

I have dabbled with EVE for several years now, but each time I return, I feel like if I speak in local or NPC corp chat, or any of the other channels, I am punished. The bounty system is so easily abused because chatting leads to random people placing a bounty on my head.

Now, I am a carebear, through and through. A simple check of my kill to death ration can confirm that. I also spend a great deal of time either mining or exploring. I make no apologies for it. But in an MMO that should encourage communication between players, one of the first rules of EVE is "don't speak." Yeah, I know I can chat to my hearts content and just accept random bounties placed on my head, but that just places a bigger mark on my head.

Anyway, I don't think removing the bounty system is the solution, but it would be nice if I could chat while having my fun without being labeled WANTED just for trying to be social in a social game.

Well, my 10 frees days is up soon and I am not sure I will sub again yet. But while playing for the last 9 days, it occurred to me that this is one of those nagging features of EVE that I don't enjoy. I like being social, but being penalized for it really sucks.

Fly safe.

Get in touch with me, and ill drag you into a channel or two with friendly souls (well, not always friendly, but no assholes at least)

A bunch of us put bounties on each other when they updated the bounty system and got rid of all the bounties in the game. Felt weird not seeing it over the picture. Hell, my market alt has a bounty on it and it never unlocks lol. Side effect from bs-ing in trade hub local chat lol. To be honest, I don't know why they didn't just remove the bounty system instead of revamping it.

The bounty system is pretty pointless, sadly. If you're a carebear you'll have a tougher time mining since people love to try and "own" belts or whatever they say to justify the permit systems. It's happened for as long as I remember from various entities. Really, start looking for some 0.0 corps. You'll have a good chance of finding a group tucked away in some backwoods area where you can carebear away.

Bullshit..If you want to mine, go mine. Never bought a permit, never will.

Bounties are like that hair that grows in funny places,
after a certain age its abscence is either deliberate or indicative of something serious.
Also much like the aformentioned hair it should have absolutly no impact on your day to day activities.

The only people who would take issue with you having one are prudish wierdos who dont understand the systems and probably no fun anyway

Well that was just mean. Of course 1mil is a trivial amount, but it is ultimately meaningless as I am not going to re-sub.

The last 9 days in EVE have reminded me why I leave every time I come back.

Fly safe and try to be kinder to people.

It appears that you really aren't cut out for this game, snowflake (and Lord knows how you handle RL when things get a little uncomfortable or awkward). For God's sake, it's just internet pixels, not a poster with your real face on it in a bounty hunter's office.

Would that were true. All you have to do is get a couple of people's attention on this forum to get a bounty on you.
Look at Bumblefck telling everybody how to be a tough guy like him....woo hoo. Next thing you know he'll be telling you how to arrange the furniture in your house - tough-guy style.

Op. Solo pvper here who only does combat and... Are you sitting down? Because this is going to blow your mind.
I don't hate you for being a care bear. Or any other reason.

I Beleive it takes all of us to make eve go round.

And really pay attention to this next part.

There are three types of eve players really.

1. Those who know its a game and do their own thing with their friends/Corp

2. Those who don't know it's a game and take stuff too personally

3. Those who know its just a game and prey on those who take it too seriously to harvest tears.

I reccomended you join group 1 and leave group 2 ASAP. Or your not going to make it far.

Look for a Corp to join that shares your play style.

Most of the asshats out there are only asshats to those in group 2. And only as long as they remain in said group.

Those in group 3 are really great guys if your not their tear tap.

And the exploits of group 3 creates a lot of good lols for us all in groups 1 and 3 to enjoy.

See. Takes us all.

Even this post is tears for group 3. Job well done I say

So.. Yes talk away wherever you want. Bounties are pointless with the way they are collected
Wear your wanted sign as a lol at Ccp for spending so much time on such a useless game mechanic. And for the love of the blood God. Don't fall for this trick again.

You got grieved by group 3 and cried all over gd just like they wanted you to.

I'm sorry if this post is a little scatter brained. I've been up for the last 26 hours trying to squeeze every ounce of performance out of my ancient pc so I can make half way decent twitch streams.

And I post with my main because there is nothing anyone can do to ruin my game.

The bounty system is like the like button on forums and Facebook.

The number of isk on your bounty is like the number of likes you have.

OP, bounties don't matter to your game. Don't worry about them or anybody putting them on you for any reason. Again, bounties don't really matter. Some people will put a small bounty (100k is minimum bounty possible to do) on players just to see if they will react. Some people will put a bounty on someone who doesn't have one just as a way of saying "hi, welcome to the EvE club".

Not a reason to stop you from enjoying the game.

Confirming bounties are Eve 'likes'.
Have a like.
OP, if serious, is a demonstration of how the Eve environment allows a person to be Good, which is different from being Nice in that it requires much more of you and it is a genuine quality instead of a controlling posture trying to avoid trouble.
Nice people are fake, Good people are Gold.
