Really?

Try flying a ship sometime.

I know whinging and whining about everything in the forum may seem appealing, but it's very possible to never be in your bedroom ever.

*shrug* Eve is a Mumorpuger. If you go by the letter the term alone describes it perfectly. The only problem is that other games have set up expectations that differ from the original concept. So nowadays you'll have to basically repeat yourself and call it something like
single shard multiplayer player-driven sandbox Mumorpuger.

The question is not "wat is eve?" , but "what is life without eve?"

For people who never played EVE, Life is normal i guess.
For capsuleers on the other hand, it can be dull.

But you see, this is my point: we may decide not to treat EVE in this specific way, and yet our choice does not alter the reality of how it works. We may or may not agree with the social structure and mechanisms around us in real life, but that does not change how the world works. It's totally independent of how we choose to see it or treat it. And I'm talking here from the perspective of a player that has never had any part in the political machinations of EVE - that I had not part in them does not mean they have not affected - even in a limited way - how I play (or how I choose to play) the game, despite my own concept about it.

Good discussion.

One more time, not everyone plays the way you do. I've spent months at a time roaming solo in any part of space and enjoying myself completely. Politics, social dynamics etc make no difference at all. For many, many people, what you say is 100% irrelevant. That's my point. Goons are being attacked? Who cares? CODE ganked a freighter? irrelevant.

Again, stop telling other people what the right way is to enjoy EVE

I think you missunderstand his point. He is not talking about the way we play nor what we enjoy about the game, but the influence society has on our dicisions, how and what we play. And that is correct and kind of obvious.

And if not, then i don' t get it either.

To me, EVE is the only MMO that has actual consequences for your actions, therefore it is the only MMO worth playing.

So...you asked the question then answered it in a way that nullifies any view which may differ.

I take issue with some of what you said, and therefore your conclusion. However, I can take a hint.
I'm not presenting any details. I don't wish to burden you unnecessarily.

Came expecting another, boring "What is EVE?" thread.
Found something surprisingly even more boring.
Left...bored.

I definitely understand what he's saying. I disagree. The influence of other players' actions has zero influence on a large number of players. That's my point. Assuming that's the case is being unaware of a pretty decent number of playstyles.

Eve is whatever you want it to be.

Eve is your game.

By labeling it, you are limiting yourself.

Throw caution to the wind, and figure out what Eve is on your own.

Hey, do you hate that guy? you can kill him
Hey, do you like that guy? You can be his friend, And kill him later!
Hey, do you like that ship? you can buy it/build it
Hey, do you have friends? You can give them ships (And kill them)

It's a sociopath simulator

But really, I've been away for quite a while due to reasons, but my goals in EVE are always:

  • Get power
  • Shoot lasers at asteroids
  • Look for someone to kill, maybe
  • Take their corpse
  • Put it in a box
  • Drop some buildings onto a planet

But now that I've returned after almost a year, it's like:

  • Why the hell am I in an NPC corp?
  • What's this minigame thing?
  • Where are people getting this armor?
  • Can I still hoard corpses?
  • Where am I?
  • Dafuq is this?!

  • I dunno I guess that's EVE

Ditto. You can pick 400+ ways of being a spaceship, and starting April 27th you'll also be able to be a space station screensaver, but being a human being and doing human stuff does not belong in EVE.

In other words, a sandbox only allows to play with the sand someone puts in it. And EVEs' sandbox is notoriously missing sand.

Pray, do point me to where I say to people how they should play EVE in order to enjoy it - you know, like "stop roaming the galaxy" or "stop mining endlessly" or "stop having pvp tournaments in FW" or "everyone go to nullsec" or "if you are not doing xyz you are not doing it right" - any single instance in this thread.

Doing so, besides being utterly futile and egocentric, would be contrary to the very definition of what EVE is, as I wrote it down initially; in a game that simulates a social structure, even the developers avoid doing that - that's the modus operandi of theme-park games.

You are either not able to understand what I'm saying, or you are deliberately attributing to me intentions I do not have, based on your own convictions (or both). Nobody is trying to take away your liberty to choose how you see and play EVE; we're just having a discussion here.

Maybe you should be a bit less sensitive, and stop putting in people's mouths things they've not said, just because you believe they said them.

From CCP's point of view, I think it matters a lot - because it's a point you have to handle with care if you want to attract new customers.

It also have to be handled with care not to loose the customers they already have and this is something that have been and most likely will continue to be an issue. My personal opinion is that change should come slowly in EVE and that CCP should focus on improving what they already have rather then attempt to 'rebrand' the game into something different.

There is a huge risk in rebranding and especially if it's done in order to appeal to a more 'casual' crowd of mainstream MMO:s, these players will for the most part find EVE overwhealming and 'unfair' since they can be preyed upon in a way they are not used to from their old MMO:s.

    I see.

You have not figured out how to get past "The Door" in the captains quarters yet have you? All those options and so much more are available just beyond it.
