travel fit for tengu in nullsec, using covert ops cloak and bubble nullified:

when i come through a gate, and there is a gatecamp on grid... what are the proper steps to give the best chance of not being targeted?

when the next gate i want to jump through is my "selected item"... do i just hit jump and then hit cloak immediatley after that?

or is it better to hit "align", then hit cloak, then hit jump?

This game is neither linear nor formulaic.

Everything in this game is situational, EVERYTHING.

There is nothing that anyone is going to tell you in a couple sentences or even a couple paragraphs that will do anything more than give you a brief idea of what to do in the most common situations with no complicating factors. Even then your execution will differ since you lack their experience.

That being said, use your gate cloak wisely. Take that time to asses the situation. Null sec bubble camps are usually set up and prepared to decloak cov ops ships. You are also bubble proofed but still anyone trying to target you will also be trying to point you and the target lock will break the cloak and will also at the same time point you. So essentially if you get locked you likely aren't warping anywhere.

In situations like that burning back to the gate that you just came through is always a good option.

If you want to get good at it before you risk a tengu then put a T1 cloak on something cheap and practice the cloak + MWD to try and escape gate camps. You can do this in low sec since you will be bubble proof in the tengu it will be a very similar experience.

For what it is worth ...

After assessing the situation, I'd continue as normal: warp, cloak.

If that fails, then it gets interesting.

My travel-GU has an XL ASB and the shield boost subsystem. It can boost pretty much all of my shield (no implants or drugs). If I can't make it back to the gate, I never would.

Of course, I'd bait them a little to make sure they all have weapons flags, before I tried to jump out.

Other than that ... I really don't know what I would do. Depends.

Depends on size of camp and proximity of things that will stop you cloaking.

If they have instalockers and decloaking stuff everywhere then overheat mids, cycle MWD and head back to gate otherwise just go for the warp.

Protip - have an overview with EVERYTHING showing when you're in a cloaky - some nefarious camps will use things like corpses that aren't on most overviews to stop you cloaking.

but what would I know, I'm just a salvager

I thought they fixed corpses so they don't decloak your ship anymore.
