One of the toughest things is to make up words in a foreign language. FAI, is it clear enough that "Smeowl" is a word made up from "smile" and "meow"? I don't know. Even as I've mastered English enough to think in it rather than translate from my language (most of time), I still can't get over how things in English are never pronounced as they're written, which a) make easier to make up words but b) how am I supposed to judge whether I am doing it right? Maybe I am figuring the wrong way how are pronounced "meow" and "smile" and "smeowl"...

Anyway, nighties, LAGLers!

Mashing up words is called a portmanteau. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't - just the nature of the beast; I'm quite fond of them. However, I'm not sure if there's a good way to portmanteau smile and meow.

It generally works best with words that can be easily divided into two parts, usually by hard consonants. Words with a vowel sound in the middle may not work unless the vowel sound is similar.
