Faction warfare-any reason to fly anything other than a frigate?

Other than the jokes and comments of "because you can" there are a lot of reasons to train bigger ships. The big reasons is: because they will open doors to bigger fights, and yes bigger loses. The VNI is a good stepping stone to the Ishtar and will teach you how to manage multiple targets. FDU is great for farmer and solo pilots so join an active FW corp where you'll become part of doctrine fleets, where you'll find that your learning curve will shorten drastically.

When flying bigger ships and you will look for bigger targets so you balance the cost vs reward. VNIs generally cost very little for Gallente FW members at around 15 million for the Vexor and chip. And you can fit it in so many ways it become very interesting to fly.

Get you some friends with a nano shield HIC, a huginn/rapier, and some assorted ranged DPS cruisers. Add links and snakes and go play EVE as it's meant to be played. Mix in other recons, command dessies and T2 frigate logi as needed, and when in doubt, add more orthruses. Follow this path and the frigate menace will never trouble you again.

The answer to your question is "No." There is no reason to fly any ship other than the Federation Navy Comet (with Police skin).
