Ship Targeting/Sensor Strength Attributes and Associated Skills

These were not easy questions to ask in writing. Please bear with me.

On the Show Info window for my ship, there are four attributes listed under Targeting: Maximum Targeting Range, Maximum Locked Targets, Signature Radius, and Scan Resolution.

Question 1: If I am already able to match my ship's Maximum Locked Targets then training more in the Target Management skill will not increase the number for that ship?

Question 2: Does the same apply to the Long Range Targeting skill and the Maximum Targeting Range attribute?

Question 3: The Scan Resolution targeting attribute does not have the keyword "Maximum". Does this mean that training in Signature Analysis will improve my target locking speed in that ship?

Under Sensor Strength on the Show Info window of my ship, there is a figure for
Magnetometric Sensor Strength that also does not have the keyword "Maximum".

Question 4: Will training in the Magnetometric Sensor Compensation skill improve the Magnetometric Sensor Strength attribute?

Question 5: If so, does this mean that the Magnetometric Sensor Compensation skill will also improve my ability to evade probe detection even though the skill description does not mention it, but the Magnetometric Sensor Strength attribute does?

Yes, yes, yes, yes, no (unprobable ships no longer exist AFAIK)

Thank you. Not unprobable, just more difficult to probe. If the Magnetometric Sensor Compensation skill improves the Magnetometric Sensor Strength attribute but not my ability to evade probe detection, then I would consider the attribute description to be inaccurate.

Alright, not sure why I didn't see this before, but the description of the Magnetometric Sensor Compensation skill says the following.

"Skill at hardening Magnetometric Sensors against hostile Electronic Counter Measure modules. 4% improved Magnetometric Sensor Strength per skill level."

So clearly the skill effects the attribute. The attribute description says the following.

"Magnetometric Sensor Strength
Larger values reduce the chance of being jammed by ECM and assist in avoiding detection by probes."

Based on the descriptions, I would conclude that training in the Magnetometric Sensor Compensation skill would improve my ability to evade detection by probes.

I'm also wondering if there's any connection between the Magnetometric Sensor Strength and Signature Radius attributes.

1. Correct. You can however increase the ship's target limit by using certain modules (signal amplifiers and auto targeting systems), assuming you also have enough skill for the now higher cap.

2. Wrong. Max targeting range is the base locking range of your ship. The Long Range Targeting skill will increase that number up to 25%.

3 & 4. Correct. The scan resolution and sensor strength listed are the base stats, and will both increase with skills.

5. It will make your ship harder to scan, yes, but a dedicated prober will always be able to pinpoint your location.

Excellent, thank you. I would only be interested in Magnetometric Sensor Compensation right now if it makes me harder to probe. I understand it's not fail-safe. I'm just looking for a little extra protection to help compensate for mistakes and distractions. Your clarification on 2 makes it sound like that skill would also be worth my while. Thanks again.

a 'dedicated' prober in this instance would have maxed out scanning skills, be in a ship that specialises in probing, is fit for probing and has a head full of Virtue implants.

You can no longer make a ship *impossible* to probe. but you can make certain ships very, very hard to probe down.

For what it is worth, Marauders are quite capable of locking 13 targets.

Often overlooked for targeting are the fleet bonuses, especially the Leadership skill itself.
