Socket closed issue was not on the radar until we saw this feedback ... Network Wizards have a theory so hopefully this will be sorted very soon.

We will get to the bottom of this !

for the rest of the thread ...

Thanks for the kind words :)

Thanks Gun Show!

I will try and get ticket numbers from my corp mate or have him post some EBRs for reference.

At the time all he's been told is there is nothing wrong on the CCP end according to the logs and it is most likely his ISP.

That would be very much appreciated. It's kinda unnerving when you disco multiple times with rather unpleasant people on grid or chasing you. ^^

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

I'm the corp mate @Dominous Nolen mentioned. And to say the least it has been frustrating to the point of breaking my interest to log in.

I'll link the ticket numbers when i get home early next week.

I really hope you do get to the bottom of it, as at this point i'm constantly questioning if i should even re-sub...

A bit disappointed that it took this long for socket closure to get on the radar.

Please please fix.

I 100% understand this can be annoying but we just have a theory to check out but believe me a big internal discussion has started around this

and for the disappointment ... OK but bear in mind this is needle in a haystack as from what i understand of the issue right now to our logs this appears as graceful client disconnect which is happening in the thousands logging on and off all day

no way to pin point

all this is dependent on a theory which we will focus on

if it turns out to be bogus then we dig deeper i will also talk to our GM's tomorrow and see numbers behind tickets created on client disconnects before and after Tech III

could you send me a private message with your support ticket number for reference

we cant have you not in space blowing up **** !! :)

YAY (i think)

I had too use -

- Astrill vpn on the (server1.fast-back.com) connection for like 3 months because of constant disconnects from tq II (last tested 1 week before the tq move)
- Normal ISP Virgin Media (cpc2-ipsw2-2...)

with astrill on; i never got disco's but the software itself requires all the features to function properly otherwise the app rules etc broke, so it was annoying to use lately, and I only use it for EVE so im paying just for that, and i was exploring another VPN (express vpn)

Havent used Astrill in 4 days now with eve, and i havent been disco'd once

Dont want to jinx myself though
Fingers crossed!
Congrats!

p.s. just read the blog (some good stuff on socket closes in there, yay for 8% cpu bgt, etc etc) looking forward :)

Wednesday, February 17th – “Everest” Node Blue Screened

After years of dedicated, solid service, the “Everest” node which was responsible for the main trade hub in the game, Jita, blue screened, and market and player activity was moved over to a less powerful node

I just wanted to mention this event as the node had done so well for us and literally had 12 more days to go. Thankfully it recovered with a reboot and went back into action at next downtime and finished its tour of duty.

o7 to everyone that worked on the upgrade. Op Success!

Is it possible to log when players press the [quit game] button ?

Because this would be the vast majority of players who are intentionaly exiting the client.

Players who dont press [quit game] are either socket closing or rapidly pulling out their eithernet cable due to wife/gf aggro or reasons.

Could this upgrade have anything to do with "socket closed" disconnects I started getting every 10-15 minutes? I can hardly play now. My ISP says my connection is flawless. And my ping test results are excellent.

I had this Problem too.
I used my power cables as Network cable, and Eve was Nitpicking on this.
As soon as I replace this with a classic direct line networkcable (cat 5 standard) the disconnects (socket Closed) were done for me.

I guess it is something on Eve side that does not react well with your Network / HW setup. Very difficult to solve for CCP in my Opinion. Maybe the BGP is overoptimizeing stuff and causeing this Package loss?
( Eve is the only Game so far that were I had network problems that were Hardware related ... )

On the Topic:
Nice upgrade work CCP! It really looks like a success.

And it is also nice that some bigger Battles are fought again. I would like to know how a similar Battle looked like before. But I hope the player experience is improved.

Thanks a lot for looking into that ... it became much worse since the big updates. One pattern is you get discos if some actions start on grid, sometimes after some seconds of lag. Yesterday I got one after undocking, dropping probes and hitting scan in quick succession. Please also look into the much more frequent lag spikes (without TiDi) happening everywhere, also in empty nullsec regions.

Ok we made some changes during this downtime i would truly appreciate if all who were experiencing the 5 minute idle socket closed symptoms to either reply here or feel free to send me a private message ;)

your feedback is crucial to get a better understanding

for the other generic disconnects there are two things right now in motion

1: The automatic BGP re routing solution which we tested while in Telecity will be placed online within 1-2 weeks

2: Better analysis of our logs to pinpoint the root cause of a disconnect is a longer project but its being actively worked on now so the time frame is bit longer on that

i aim to give more frequent updates on the infrastructure improvements now since we can clearly see you appreciate the hardware dev blogs :)

so more of that !

Sort of... We moved from one data center to a different data center, within the same city

The old Everest node from TQ Tech II, did this use a Xeon X5698 or was it something even faster? I have a vague memory of a fanfest stream from around 3-4 years ago about the most powerful node that had a processor covered by an NDA at the time.

It was the X5698, correct. We got it super early from what I remember and that was the reason for the NDA

I was always curious about it. I dread to think what that must have cost at the time, funny to think they can be had for under £200 on eBay these days Smile Is there anything secret in TQ Tech III? Big smile
