Gankers tend to use alts - they want to upset you.
You won't know their main characters so you can't get any meaningful revenge.
Gate campers usually have friends in the area and camp those gates like miners sit in asteroid belts.

Being a parasite or turd in this game has no real consequences but they think they are awesome. Roll

It would be fun if these lasted forever, and you could lay in wait for years, patiently anticipating exacting your vengeance, like an ancient samurai. Then SWOOSH you emerge from a bush and chop his head off in front of his village elders.

You can do that without kill rights.

Atticus, Atticus...(I love To Kill A Mockingbird, btw)...this isn't a no holds barred game. It may be cutthroat, but it's got an intricate and complicated weave of limitations. The eternal kill rights? Yeah, yeah. Sure you start out that pissed, but five years from now you'd look at that name on your list and wonder...who was that again? It's similar to a friends list. In the heat of the moment you friended the guy, six months later you have no idea why.

Allow cooler heads to prevail. Make the offender a contact so he's "always there." Then do it the civilized way. Just go out and blow him to bits when you get a chance. It's the humane thing to do. Having eternal kill rights on the dude just loses the clandestine nature of things. Having the right to kill him, and just wanting to do it...it's like being allowed a slice of pie, or just nabbing it from the window sill as it cools.

So who are killmails for? The phallically-challenged?

Hate to burst OP's bubble, but you don't get killrights for being podded. Roll

I have to say I like the idea,

But ONLY if the attacker as well loses a lot less standing for the kill.

Having the kill rights - or making the kill is what seems to be the fun part of the game.

I actually gave some thought as to why killrights should or should not last more than a month.

Killrights lasting only a month are to help ease people into pvp and they are not for those who wrack up killrights every single day.

Consider this, a pilot that wracks up killmails daily/weekly wants to fight. They dont care about killrights because they are fighting all of the time. They want to be shot at.

Someone just sticking their feet into the pvp pond are going to think about their pimped out mission running ship, their faction fit Fleet Stabber, their mining barge, etc, and will be less likely to pvp if they think there is a chance they will have killrights on them forever.

One month killrights are for those that need a little bit of extra hand holding as they go from mining/mission monkey to eyes blazing need to kill everything in sight pvpers.

When it comes to PvP, I am like a chiwawa hanging from a grizzley bears pair of wrinklies for dear life.

Where's the logic in that? I thought EVE was supposed to be this cut-throat, no holds barred game.

I know, right. Surely you should just be able to pop dudes right left and centre and not have a care in the world as long as you're perfectly prepared to deal with someone being able to do it right back to you.

Oh wait, that wasn't the point you were making. What a shame.

Don't think ever much worried about who, or how many there are in the "have killrights on you" tab.

Usually it just kept loading to the point i thought my comp had locked up, so was avoiding looking there as much possible. If anyone ever wanted to cash in that killright out there it shouldn't be all to hard find the guy. They tend to usually be roaming around, looking for adding a few more to their list.

Not played much the last few months thou, so might be clear now. Looking forward to some more freetime to start filling it up again

Sorry, but I have to call BS on this.

The Kill Rights system allows a player to get revenge on another who has illegally destroyed his ship in Empire space (0.1 to 1.0 security systems)and is only granted if the attacked player had no chance or desire to fight back. Returning fire on an illegal kill attempt will void or negate any kill rights being granted. Kill rights are only granted on SHIP kills, not POD kills.

I agree with the OP that kill rights should last until revenge has been fulfilled.

You really think he's even going to remember who you are after a week? I have personally never care or worry about people I ganked/podded coming back to get me, and I don't know anyone who does.

But don't let that deter you. Go ahead and chestbeat some more about how people are scared of you for a month after podding you.

So you agree, killrights should be permanent? Big bad capsuleer like yourself wouldnt be deterred by this right?Pirate

Sure. Whatever. If I shot and killed you once, I can shoot and kill you again, and will likely be prepared for combat anyway.

I don't think you get it: people who know their PvP don't really care about kill rights at all because a) we don't hang out in hisec, and b) when we do, we are usually in control of the situation, even if it goes downhill, and c) losing ships is an everyday occurrence; "Oh no, you killed me. *slow clap*"

And (d) hardly anyone ever even tries to use those killrights anyway.

If they haven't tried within 30 days, how long will they take?

PS Support my Bounty Hunting via transferrable killrights proposal so we can actally see more PvP in hi-sec:

Look at it this way: a 3 month old newb that gets ganked can never meet the firepower of a 2, 3, 4 year old veteran simply because they dont have the skills to meet the ganker's. Training to meet your foe's skill will take more than a month.

So kill rights should have no expiration IMO. Again, im looking at this from a security standpoint. Why take a security hit just becuase you cant kill them in a month?

Let's see the bad-ass pirates strut there stuff in high-sec then.

Or is that too hardcore for the itty-bitty babies? Awwww.....

It is a cut-throat game.

You can get revenge without CONCORD's permission.

You can kill them anywhere, anytime you like, if you are up for it.

There's also plenty of folks who have such a bad security status that you can even kill them without CONCORD caring.

Some of these people are even pirates.

and some of the pirates are even 'bad-ass'.

Just sayin.

Assuming NO SHIP OR COMBAT SKILLS AT ALL:
- Train into a Rupture or Thorax Will take you mebbe 10 days. You can do it in a catalyst or Thrasher if you're looking to catch him hauling (etc).
- Get friends (this is an MMO...)
- Attack nasty foe, shoot in the face!
- Your friends (as many as you need) can provide you with ganglinks, command boosts, remote reps and tracking links, as necessary.
- Win
- ???
- Gloat.

Assuming you can run a level 2 or 3 mission
- Train propulsion jamming.
- Get friends (this is an MMO...)
- Attack nasty foe, shoot in the face!
- Your friends (as many as you need) can provide you with ganglinks, command boosts, remote reps and tracking links, as necessary.
- Win
- ???
- Gloat.

Anyone can achieve it in a month.

If it takes you longer than 30 days your most likely saving up to craft your enemy a sweet new KM. If your enemy was a true pie than all you need is a point and a high-sec gate to get revenge. Or not dieing is an option that way you don't have to worry so much about the time constraint. I guess you want to just wait, like a year till they forget you *yawn*. News flash they don't care, wanna hurt there feelings go to the low sec they live in, use your care bear stash to buy every thing and put it back up with a 0 added in, or just go to thier favored hunting grounds and put up warp stabs in every station at low prices for months. I'm almost certain this will **** them off more in the end than a gf and a loss mail.

Why are all the squishes so quick to demand core mechanic game changes as apposed to thinking for 30 seconds to 10 minutes about there situation and how to turn it around. Its never how do I get them back or how do I not let this happen again. But in stead it "this is broken" "this needs fix" "this should favor my play style". Grow up.

See this is where you really have no idea what you're on about.

Nobody cares if someone has killrights on them or not. Well I say nobody, but what I mean is really "nobody involved in PvP cares". If someone has killrights on me and wants to exercise them, well that's great as I may get a decent fight.

You are playing entirely the wrong game if you believe that killrights are of any concern to the guy who shot you. They're not.

I see no reason why the kill rights shouldn't be permanent. I don't think anyone would care any way. The hard-ass pirates don't care, because they don't ever leave low sec or 0.0. The low-life gankers in niarja and jita don't care, because they got -10 ss.

All real pirates don't care if they got kill rights on them, at least that's what they brag about all the time, so making them permanent wouldn't change anything from their perspective and would change a lot from the high sec care bear perspective. A care bear could train up for pvp within a few months, get the guns and ship, track you down and kill you one day.

In other words - pirates think they are badass, so they should not cry about such a change.

Care bears would be happy.

So summing it up, everyone would get what they wanted.
