Come back after 4 year hiatus.

Could someone recommend some PVE, mainly ninja plexing in 0.0 fits.

Some of the ones i have seen are Shield tanking fits.

Is there a reason why people are shield tanking these days, my fitted ishtar that i have come back to after all this time is sheild. It was fine for all the sites i did back then.

I think a lot of people shield tank the Ishtar because they started with Caldari so they have better shield skills than armor skills.

It is easier to armor tank the Ishtar (assuming your armor skills are as good or better than your shield skills).

I am using a deadspace armor repper + plating + DC2 + 2 hardeners. In the mids I have propulsion + 2 target painters + a cap recharger. In the highs you have a scan probe launcher and 3 turrets, your choice.

With this fit, I do run out of cap on tough sites, so I have to micro manage the repper. I think it has 2:30 of cap or something like that. If it was shield tanked it would probably be less, possibly much less.

Note that the ship resists are much better for Guristas, so this is an ideal ship for that type of site. I find fighting Sanshas a lot tougher due to the lack of EM resist. Also, if you fit lasers for EM damage which is critical in the higher level Sansha sites, then it sucks down the cap. So, the Ishtar is not really optimal for Sansha.

It might be that the Ishtar happens to naturally work quite well with shields vs kin/therm damage...

Perfection is a dish best served like wasabi .

This is a good start.

What i recommend is that you T2 the rigs, and carry refits in your cargo:

- mobile depot for refitting, T2 cloak + MWD for travelling since you are going the ninja way
- a second rep, and cap mods like cap recharger & cap battery for tougher plexes
- application / damage mods to refit when you start clearing the DPS
- spare drones if you still have some room left
- core probe launcher with probing strength mods and a few sets of sisters core probes

Yeah no big deal. Just think about your ship as modular; you'll adapt to the difficulty of the plex before warping in it, and while running it. Once you're in a pocket, drop a mobile depot and add more dps, projection, or application as you clear the waves.

Mobile depots are perfect for what you are intending to do, they will allow you to refit at will.

Vespa EC-600 x5
Acolyte II x5
Infiltrator II x5
Caldari Navy Wasp x5
Federation Navy Ogre x5

Barrage S x400

It can clear any 0.0 anom including sanctums. Two can clear a 10/10 with ease. Adjust drones to the resists of the rats you are fighting, this one is fit for Serpentis. The guns are to attract aggro from the rats so you could fit anything in there.

Warp to an anom, orbit something at 40-50kms, wait until aggroed then deploy heavies and speed tank the rats. Without the repper, which are for your drones, it's cap stable. Once you achieve orbit then literally nothing will be able to hit you unless it has a web so kill that something immediately. Then you can tab out and watch Netflix or something.

For the most part yes. The introduction of the drone damage amplifier really buffed the DPS of drone PvE ships but has meant that you need free low slots to fit them. Currently the most effective ships in null ratting are the Vexor Navy, Ishtar (or Gila), Rattlesnake and Chimera (and probably in that order). All are normally shield fit and the Vexor Navy and Ishtar usually rely on speed tanking to mitigate any incoming damage. Average ticks are usually around the 15-20 mill mark for the Ishtar rising to 25-30 mill for the Chimera.

As for PvP, the Ishtar isn't really used much in null anymore. A couple of years ago Ishtar fleets were king as everyone orbited their sentries about 100kms away from each other but CCP has progressively nerfed those. You see the odd one or two in a small gang but now the PvP meta is predominantly shield based and armor comps are pretty rare.

Never ever understood, why the hell would you rat for 15-20 mil a tick. Mission running even in hisec gives better income.

Four years ago the Ishtar was still a beast of a dps/shield tank boat particularly for Serps and Gurista rats, because it had 5 mids and a very low sig even with shield extenders. I ran 10/10's in Fountain for a long time using a shield tanker.

You've probably noticed that since then CCP have moved a mid-slot down to the lows, so for the same racial rats you're really better off with a dual-rep armour tank, one or two hardeners and 2-3 damage amps which will up your dps with Ogre II's to well over 650/750.

I'd recommend this since you've been away four years and it was about that time that CCP bufffed the NPC AI (particularly drone aggro) so you might be best served with a decent tank while you adjust. The dual-rep is even cap stable if you add a couple of cap rechargers and a CCC rig, although IMHO that's overkill since pulsing the second rep is sufficient. I'd fit a Drone Nav Comp at least, so you can recall heavy drones fast when they get aggro'd.

tl;dr the Tar is still a fantastic ratting boat against kin/therm rats and needs no bling to make it so.

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

I'd recommend shield-tanking the Ishtar, most Caldari ships favor shields. Not to mention you've probably delved farther into shield skills than armor/hull skills.

Don't explain your philosophy. Embody it.
