Hi guys,

I just lately returned to the game and wanted to know what the best composition and loadout for a Tengu, mainly for PvE, would be. I used to use it as a speed tank and so atm my (old) Tengu has:

hi slot 0 Heavy Missile Launcher II
hi slot 1 Heavy Missile Launcher II
hi slot 2 Heavy Missile Launcher II
hi slot 3 Heavy Missile Launcher II
hi slot 4 Heavy Missile Launcher II
hi slot 5 Heavy Missile Launcher II
low slot 0 Ballistic Control System II
low slot 1 Ballistic Control System II
low slot 2 Ballistic Control System II
low slot 3 Ballistic Control System II
med slot 0 Caldari Navy Explosive Deflection Field
med slot 1 Shield Boost Amplifier II
med slot 2 Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
med slot 3 Adaptive Invulnerability Field II
med slot 4 Pithi B-Type Small Shield Booster
med slot 5 10MN Afterburner II
rig slot 0 Medium Capacitor Control Circuit I
rig slot 1 Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II
rig slot 2 Medium Capacitor Control Circuit II
subsystem slot 0 Tengu Defensive - Amplification Node
subsystem slot 1 Tengu Engineering - Augmented Capacitor Reservoir
subsystem slot 2 Tengu Offensive - Accelerated Ejection Bay
subsystem slot 3 Tengu Propulsion - Fuel Catalyst
subsystem slot 4 Tengu Electronics - Dissolution Sequencer

With all the changes in the game, what should I go for with it these days?

Thx

You shouldn't be using cap rigs, you should be using application rigs; 2 rigors and a flare, otherwise your applied DPS will be pretty weak.

Speedtanking a Tengu works fairly well - it'll certainly cope with L4s well enough, but you'll have to pay attention to what you're doing, because if anything webs you, you're likely to be in trouble very quickly. If you want a low-attention ISK machine, then a RHML Rattlesnake will be significantly better

And if you're prepared to pay attention, then there are other ships that deal much more DPS. And paying attention to a low DPS mission ship is an awful way to pass the time.

The real use for a Tengu post HML nerf used to be that it was fairly easy to make an unprobeable mission ship.

Not sure if I got all of that :D
re-learning EVE is almost as hard as getting into the game first time Ugh

HML-nerf = Heavy missile launcher nerf? And that was when? Sorry for my noobism ;)
What's a RHML-Rattlesnake?

In the end I just want to fly missions fast and effectively, lvl4's atm, lvl 5's to come in a not too distant future. I need a ship for that, I used to use that speed-tengu, but am absolutely open to use something else if it's killing rats faster.

Battleclinic seems to be down or not working; where e.g. would I find a fit for that Rattlesnake you recommended? Or should I rather use a hybrid turret ship? I can only fly Caldari atm but there I can use at least Navy-issue battlecruisers and battleships, so it should not take me too long to handle a rattlesnake or anything that relies on shields, cap, missiles or hybrid turrets.

Heavy missiles took a large (and in my opinion, unnecessary) nerf a couple of years ago.

A "RHML Rattlesnake" is a Rattlesnake (Guristas Pirate Battleship with bonuses to drones, missiles and shield resists) fitted with Rapid Heavy Missile Launchers - BS class launchers that fire Heavy Missiles rapidly, much as Rapid Light Missile Launchers do with light missiles. They may not have been in the game when you last played.

Here's a fairly cheap and cheerful setup vs L4 Guristas - Pith mods are cheap as chips these days, no one will gank you for that lot. Total cost should be about the same as a cheapish Tengu. When you can, upgrade the Rigor to T2.

Obviously you'll want to swap out the drone loadout and shield hardeners for different rat types and mission scenarios. 573 missile DPS (this alone is actually pretty close to what a cheapfit Tengu will do, although without the range bonuses, ofc) + 676 drone DPS. Its main disadvantage vs the Tengu is range, and the delay in damage from the Heavy drones getting into range. Once they do, though, you can just let them get on with murdering the BS rats while you clear the small, then medium rats with your launchers.

For Level 5 missions, I have no experience. I hear there's heavy neuting and lots of EW. The 'snake can deal with both of those but I suspect you'll need to really bling the tank to make it work.
