I really didn't know about the SP gift the time I wrote the thread before. I simply didn't get the message. I just found the message now on the launcher screen.

I want to formally apologize. I really appreciate the work of the devs and the entire project team and it was never my point of critism. So please don't get me wrong.

Thank you and kind regards

And this is why you should try to avoid knee jerk reactions and ranting Blink

E: Good on you for apologizing though, a lot of people wouldn't have bothered.

You know what? That's not really the problem. When you throw a tantrum that would embarrass a toddler, as you did, over something as infantile as your video game wasn't working well for a couple days, it's not as if you are only in the wrong due to your ignorance of the material facts surrounding the compensatory actions.

"Help, I'm bored with missions!"

You are simply a symbol of the larger problem where many people don't understand the complexities of running, maintaining and upgrading s complex system such as is running this game environment.

Your initial knee-jerk reaction is simply a sign of how bad some people just don't have a clue, and are spoiled beyond belief with the delusion of self entitlement.

You and many others are the reasons some of the most basic services cost too much because for everyone one that runs the service they need three more to kiss your ass and wipe your nose when things don't go right.

- I would go into more detail but don't really want to waste others time.

There used to be a saying: "Never play on patch day!"

CCP has gotten really good in this regard. Patches do still have issues (of course), but at least the game works in the sense that you can login and play. This time, they didn't just deploy a patch. They migrated the whole thing to new hardware and a new location. Stuff is pretty much bound to go wrong when one does that - that's just how things are.

Compensation or no, people should just calm down - for their own sake, not CCPs (they've probably gotten used to it). In the end, there was like half a day or so of unscheduled downtime. That's really nothing to make a fuzz about, considering something like that rarely ever happens these days.

Good on you for apologizing, but I think you should understand, that even without the SP compensation, one shouldn't get so worked up about a few days of unscheduled downtime in an online game.

It's a corporation, dummy. Corporations are indecent by definition. They also test as sociopaths on psych batteries.

to be honest, why do so many people feel like they need a gift from CCP when there is an issue?

you know why?, because a while back there was a big issue and CCP set a horrible precedent by doing it then and now many people expect it.

The fact is, we all pay for 23/7/360 gaming time, and more often than not CCP delivers us 23.5/7/360 gaming time, generally every day you gain around 30 minutes of extra game time that you're not paying for, and does CCP tell you that you need to give them a gift for the extra game time they give you?

No, they do it because they mostly have no issues and can and they want to, They could sit there and leave the servers off so that they are down for the entire hour they are allowed, but they don't do that.

And then when you lose an hour or two or 3 you all (almost all) seem to forget about the 15 extra hours of free game time you get each month and you walk around boodie-hurt whining like little children berating and belittling the people whose sole concern in their job's performance is making sure that your space pixels work so that they earn the money you give them...

Now with that said, yes, it is frustrating, but come on, really?

some folks should be ashamed of themselves.

just saying.

Edit: that's around 180 hours of game time each year for those who don't want to do the math. :P

Don't mistake fact for arrogance, supposition for fact, or disagreement for dismissal. Perception is unique in that it can be shared or singular. Run with the pack if you wish, but think for yourself. A sandwich can be a great motivator.

It would show more love if CCP just didn't gave up on their duties, like providing authoritative end user documentation for their software. What?

Even if there hadn't been an SP gift (and it was a gift, not an entitlement) it's ridiculous for you to get mad at CCP for having hiccups on a day that they were doing massive server hardware upgrades.

The fact that they only had a few hours of problems is pretty amazing in itself. I was fully prepared for the possibility of EVE being down for a few days.

It's been pretty generous anyway. Usual compensation was 50k sp in the past.

Remove standings and insurance.

SP injectors are a thing now, getting free SP from CCP for hiccups now is basically just the same as giving us a couple hundred mil isk. I think we need a new way of making up for downtimes, maybe in proper eve spirit the CEO needs to sing us a song when things hit the fan

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

This. So much this. Song and CCP Guard dancing in the background please. Priceless.

It was really nice to get the free skillpoints, Not because CCP had to, but because they cared too.
Nice, and thank you.
My thanks to those who had to deal with the unforseen issues, It must have been not only a lot of work but very stressful too.
