Projectile VS Hybrid.

After recently starting the game and understanding how it works, I've taken a liking to Caldari ships, more so shields and missiles.

However I want to make sure I'm not restrained to only missiles, I also quite like what I've seen of Minmatar ships, so my question is for a secondary damage type, should I choose projectiles for Minmatar or Hybrids for some Caldari/Gallente.

Pros/Cons and why greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Gallente is usually next natural progression from Caldari. Hybrids work on Caldari ships too, so you have some cross over. There is no Minmatar/Caldari pirate ship class, so you don't open yourself up to faction ships with Minmatar. Gallente makes more sense.

Gallente ships and weapons are in a good place right now. Keep in mind that Gallente also use drones a LOT.
That said, All races use drones, so good drone skills is a plus for any race. T2 lights is just about mandatory imo.

Minmatar are historically a hard race to train into. They use shields, armor, guns, drones, missiles, speed.
I like ships they have in every hull size. I like them for the utility slots, speed and capless weapons systems.

My opinion:
There's not really a *bad* choice. Both races have a great line up. Since it's YOUR game, you should just pick one that you think might fit your style a little more. Or one that has cool looking ships for you, or any other reason you like.

Keep in mind that the gunnery SUPORT skills will affect all race guns. If you can't pick a clear path just yet, keep pumping up those support skills.

Moreover, once you train up your gunnery support skills crosstraining hybrids<->projectiles becomes rather trivial.

I'm a newbie myself but from what I've seen so far, some Minmatar ships also use missiles and shields, so that's good. And then, when you train Gunnery, there's only the specific turret skills you will need (Projectile for Minmatar, Hybrid for Caldari and Gallente, and Laser for Amarr).
Myself? I went for Gallente first as they seem to have the most "crossfaction" skills. Drones are useful in all ships with drone bays. A lot of pirate factions use Gallente ship skills with addition to other factions. And, well... there's the space potato. The most beautiful ship in the entire galaxy. Does 12 parsecs in under 15 tomatoes.

Projectiles are skirmish weapons. They are ideal for highly maneuverable ships. They trade firepower for versatility of range.

Hybrids are the opposite. They demand controlling range in the engagement. Blasters are extreme in-your-face high-damage, and rails are extreme range low-damage.

Projectiles are often considered "universal" since they can be fit on hulls without a weapon damage bonus, regardless of race.

It doesn't hurt to train everything. It takes less than 45 days to train all T1 / navy / faction ships and T1 / navy / deadspace weapons and the weapon support skills to level 3.

Projectiles are universal, they work on basically all ships. I'd also recommend you fly Gallente, considering their ships are usually a bit more advanced than Caldari ships, not to mention Gallente also use drones.

Don't explain your philosophy. Embody it.

I would echo what has been said above. However, one thing I did not see mentioned (may have missed it though) was for PVE.

Projectiles have the advantage of being able to select damage type, but since you have missles, this really is not a huge plus for you.

However, the one reason I would say gallente ships is because of drones for PVE. Depending on who you ask, drones are the way to go for pve.

Also, if you train gallente and t2 blaster, you are on your way to a vindicator pilot which is usually easier to get into an incursion fleet, but that is only if you want that.

It's about the same work from any race to any other race. Sure you get hybrids free, but you need way better drone skills to fly Gallente well. Especially if you're new and flying stuff smaller than a battleship.

hybrids are pretty good now, gallente is however very reliant on drones, which are sh** and will be shot and killed constantly by anyone, players and NPC. Hybrids need cap too, which will turn out badly when neuted, compared to projectiles.
