I made a trial account yesterday, only after about an hour or so of waiting for the website to actually come out of "Maintenance mode", when I tried to login to the game, it gave me some proxy error only to find the server was down again, then when I finally got into the game, within 30 seconds of finishing the creation of my character, there was a message saying the server was going down again due to market issues.

Needless to say I said stuff it and left it for the day, I came back today, logged in to find my tutorial has vanished, I eventually figure out how to do some mining and within 5 minutes the game errors out with a proxy sol error thing and now I can't get back in the game?

How do people play this game if it has this many connection issue's? I have to say I have had an incredibly terrible impression of the game so far.

Congratulations on joining EVE at the worst possible time !

There is a major hardware upgrade in progress, and obviously they are still hitting the new servers with a big stick to make them behave. Issues like this are actually very uncommon.

While you are waiting to play, here's a little light reading that explains how great it is going to be when ... well ... after they've hit the servers a few more times http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/tranquility-tech-3/

The hardware for the DB server has been replace yesterday. They are running Windows and SQL Server. The servers tend to run very stable and did so for the last 2 years. You may have picked the worst day to join the game in the last 8 years.

Oh right well that explains it, it's just my luck to join when this is all going on. Ugh

Yup, sorry for that.

I've been playing almost 3 years now and it's the first time the server has misbehaved so badly.

Yep playing for a little bit than a year and only maybe 2 to 3 day off like this...
While waiting, suggest you to find youtube tutorial on the career agent to discover the game as there is a lot to assimilate

when you understand that they transfered TQ to an entirely new server farm in a new location and essentially are removing TiDi from the game, then I think you might be impressed with how little server issues the game has.

Eve typically runs very solid and rarely has server issues.

That is a bit of an overstatement. It will take more to trigger TIDI but it will still happen. TIDI was introduced to alleviate lag and prevent srever crashes so it is not going anywhere.

OP - for details of what has been going on, you can have a read of this news post and the dev blogs linked from it. Sufficed to say it is a significant hardware upgrade that will make eve faster.

Confirming that EVE servers are usually solid; you can see user counts here, and you can see the outages yesterday, and if you switch to the 2w (2 weeks) view you'll see the server's pretty solid otherwise.

Just give them a couple days to fix the issues, and they'll probably write a dev blog about it.

TQ is surprisingly stable majority of the time. But. .. it is also 10+ years of code, patches, updates, and data that's being migrated to a completely new server structure. So naturally the gremlins came out to play. I can say CCP has had a team working on these issues non-stop since before downtime yesterday.
