Anyone know what will happen to POS hardware in the light of Citadels? (I've seen much chat about the BPO's and i know that is much more scary but...)

Do I need to keep my moon locations?
Will the price plummet?
Should i take them down now and sell them in Jita before its too late?

What are others doing?

Thanks, fly safe

I don't think there will be a price crash until the actual deployment date is set in stone.

"Spring" as a date has been a bit vague, I would expect the date to be announced as part of the keynote at Fanfest in 4 weeks time.

Once the first Citadels / BPC's are available, I would assume, like all new toys in New Eden, we'll be in silly season pricing until there's healthy competition between the Indy guys.

The old POS's could still be a viable asset for some time to come.

I'm also wondering what CCP's plans are for existing POS's (anchored /in storage). They have said they want them eventually removed from the game, but over how long a period is anyones guess. If they decide to do a straight swap with something else, the price on the old POS sticks may even increase if people see a way to acquire new tech relativity cheaply.

I have several very high value faction POS BPCs I was going to build and use until this Citadel stuff came around, now I'm not sure what to do with them either.

I'm not going to sell them because the prices are so damn low now; I'm not going to give them up for that kind of money. On the other hand I can't really see a reason to build them either if CCP IS going to nerf the hell out of them down the road too.

We will still need POS until other structures beyond citadels are introduced (e.g. moon mining). But I would not expect prices to go up again unless CCP offers some reimbursement over current market values.

Honest reply...

Hold tight and don't do anything until everything related to Citadels is finalized ( finalized probably wrong word to use when dealing with CCP ) Big smile

Too many unknowns right now. Mine are up, and will remain up until things are ironed out.

Civil discourse is uniquely human. After all, when is the last time a pride of lions and a herd of water buffalo negotiated SOV over a watering hole? Never. Someone either gets their ass kicked or eaten. At the end of the day someone holds SOV.

Do you keep your POS in place to "safeguard its intrinsic value" or do you keep it in place to mine moon goo?

Depends what you do with your POS.

  • If you're using it for staging, storage, you can start moving that out.
  • If you're using it for compression or reprocessing, without the activities below, it's also safe to remove those.
  • If you're using it for manufacturing, research or moon reaction, keep it. We're not touching those in the first Citadel release.

My advice for you would be to wait until we give you guys a release date before planning anything.

Thank you all very much for your good advice, just what I was looking for. BTW I use them for reprocessing, manufacturing, & research

Lol at the first reply!

On a serious note, probably not. CCP will refund you ISK to an average historic value of your POS and mods.

Meh wait and see. Same as what us supercap pilots are doing that have hundreds of billions of isk tied in ships/modules.

It's all we can do... wait and see.

One thing to consider: If you are in high sec, and use your POS for refining and/or compression:

Be aware that you can unanchor and scoop your POS in a short amount of time in the event of war. That is, you do not need to worry about defending it. At the moment, we do not know how long it takes to scoop a citadel. I've heard rumors it will take over a day, which means you cannot take it down in the event of war before the war goes live. You must defend it. Thus, you may find keeping your POS to be preferable.

To those holding out for a 'reimbursement' on your POS and modules, I wouldn't put much stock in that dream. Just revisit the indy forums circa the Criuis expansion. Most everyone was banking on a buyback of their excess laboratories when we went from a limited number of research slots per lab to unlimited slots in a single lab.

In the end there was no buyback and a lot of people were stuck with what they had. The CCP opinion on it was, 'you got your value out of them, no free iskies for you!'

I haven't looked recently but after the Criuis expansion laboratory prices crashed big time from the glut of excess labs on the market. I doubt the Hyasyoda lab ever regained their former value.

Guess I should sell my medium and large towers, since it's unlikely I put them up again.

I'll keep the small towers. I bought lots of fuel when it was at a long time low in 2013 or 2014 and have been running large, medium and currently small towers on it. There's enough for another two or three years and either I'll burn through it Lol or CCP takes the sticks down P.

Remove standings and insurance.

I sold all the extra starbase modules I had stockpiled over the years. All I kept was excess stront and ammo.

I don't expect I'll have need of a personal medium citadel, though a corp-mate might, so I could piggy-back off of that.

My POS are otherwise still fitted and active.
