Never mind walking in stations, THIS would be really cool

Say there's a really good deal on a bad ass Navy Issue whatever but it's 12 jumps away on a red route. Before you can fly it home (carefully!) ya gotta go get it. What if you could just hitch a ride with a buddy going that way, wouldn't have to worry about leaving a shuttle or whatever. And your buddy (or alt) could fly escort coming home with the new bird. Or a whole bunch of other stuff that I can't think about right now.

Yeah, it's probably a bad idea, for a thousand reasons that only the knowledgeable elite would understand, but still, think about it...

Multiple people controlling different systems on one ship could be pretty lethal.

But boarding other peoples ships wouldn't allow you to run away, you'd be screwed as soon as he was caught.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

No need to hitch a ride. Just take the pod express.

Not the pod express where you wake up back in your home station. The one where you hammer through a dozen jumps in a minute or so.

The problem is that it makes the trip to nullsec for newbies even easier than it already is. Can't fly a covert ops ship or lack the skill/patience necessary to probe down a wormhole? Just let your friend take you there in his interceptor. See the problem? It's even more convenience in a game that doesn't need it.

Figured it was a bad idea, I was just trying to not leave noob ships/shuttles when I have to go a along way for a new build. And occasionally, I do. One of my characters is Amarr based in Gallente space and the price difference can be substantial on, say, a Harbinger NI.
Seems like a bit of research is in order as I'd like to know just exactly what a pod express is; sounds like something to die for.

Leopard...go big or go home!

On the OP's request, it's also a technical issue from what I have heard. Coding it would be a monumental nightmare of nightmares.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Never not never fly your Leopard as they are an endangered species of ship.

Post with your NPC alt main and not your main main alt!

Pods are actually hideously slow for this kind of travel nowadays.

Just make it so if there are passengers they are also in a pod and they are then ejected into space the same as the pilots pod.
Sure you can still make shenanigans, but I don't see those shenanigans as a 'bad' reason to do it.

The technical nightmare behind recoding for it is the main reason we haven't seen it.

I am not opposed to the feature. Giving newbies a way to get to nullsec with the help of a friend is not a bad thing, now that pod express has largely been made impossible. More opportunities to do silly things are also not a bad thing. Apart from that, just eject the passengers pod whenever the ship gets destroyed or the pilot logs off, and allow the passenger to bug out at any time to prevent people getting stuck somewhere.

However, I also don't consider this something the game is in dire need of.

Yeah, I can imagine the code would be a nightmare, and then it's gotta be placed within skill constraints, bonuses, all that. But still, it would be way cool. And no, I'd never ride with a stranger, Momma told me about that.

Nope, I disagree here. Like passengers in game they would be cargo and thus have a 50/50 chance of dropping out in a pod, either that or they just die with the ship. Only way to balance that risk/reward imo.

And coding might not be as much of an issue that way if there was a way to create a "passenger pod" item that one can use like a ship that basically occupies the same state as the destination, and then courier contract yourself to your destination. Or something similar. Then you just watch that ships camera feed until destination perhaps.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

based on lore, if the ship dies your dead. no clone. you have ot be in a pod to clone or have a clone implant (dust)
