Can-hacker looking to add combat / ghost sites?

[Since there's no exploration-specific sub-forum, and I have new-ish questions, figured I'd ask here]

I have been enjoying my first couple months of null-sec life as a solo non-PVP, non-combat explorer in my Buzzard. (Although I'm starting to think that given the right skills and ISK, there's no reason a Helios isn't better in every way for this role.)

Realizing I'll probably need to train into t3 cruisers or the SoE ships, here's what I'd like to be able to add to my non-combat can-hacking activities:

- Be able to run the hard-to-pin-down combat-based data sites I'm finding, like Superior Sleeper Cache, Improved Angel Covert Research Facility (or whatever it's called), etc.
- Be able to run any profitable sites falling under the 'Combat Site' category.

Lots of questions. If I want to use a covops cloak and an interdiction nullifier, is it possible to still build a t3 cruiser that can accomplish the above two items? I assume that a fit optimized for the above two things would NOT be a very good PvP fit capable of defending my turf? (Say I'm running a relic site, and an Astero or Stratios pops in my system and wants to run my relic site. I have to give up and leave in my buzzard.)

Are many of the combat sites I'm seeing in null-sec solo-able and profitable, relative to relic site hacking? I'm seeing lots of 'Radiance' sites, 'Angel Prisoner Retention Facility', etc.

Thank you for any and all thoughts. I am willing to train and buy whatever is necessary.

Sorry, wrong - Missions and Complexes is the exploration sub-forum.

e: but of course, newish questions are always welcome Big smile

I'm not sure about the rest, but I'm fairly positive that having both the Interdiction Nullifier and the Covert subsystem will result in a fairly big DPS drop - but, then again, it may not be such a big deal. I'm sure others have much greater experience with this field and will chime in Smile

Even though we're in the wrong forum, I'll take a stab.

The Tengu is probably what you're looking for here. Fly around in an agility fit, travel Tengu to do your relics/data scanning. When you find a combat site you want to run, plop out a mobile depot and refit for PVE. There's quite a bit of info on this on the now silent, Pilgrim in Exile blog, which you can find HERE.

That link will take you directly to the HAM-gu fit that I am speaking about. Depending on the rats, the much-maligned HML fit might be something you prefer. YMMV.

Ultimately, they are all fairly equal but the Helios has an extra low which can be used to make fitting easier.

So, Sleeper Caches and Ghost Sites (Covert Research Facilities) are not really combat sites. They are hazardous, yes, but you can mitigate a lot of the hazard by knowing how to run the site. You don't have to actually shoot anything in them.

The Astero is a great little ship for exploration - easy to make sub-2s align (so almost un-catchable), it is cloaky, can pack 3 flights of drones (ECM drones can be a life saver) and have an OK tank. If your Covops skill is less than IV, it can be a better scanner however if you have Covops IV or V the Astero will have a lower probe strength.

As for cruisers (T3 or Stratios), if you are just doing non-combat relic/data sites then you may find it less efficient than a covops or Astero as cruisers warp slower, move slower and align slower.

Fitting a T3 with the interdiction nullifier, Locus Analyser and Covert Reconfiguration subsystems basically gimps your DPS significantly meaning lower-efficiency site running. Quite a few people refit with a depot so that they can get better DPS for sites and have a slippery travel fit.

That probably depends on what space you are running relics in - Sansha space can end up at 100 mil/hour.
