When's the cutover date again? I'm pretty sure I'm covered, but I just want to make sure...

So does that mean Midnight the 23rd Jan or after DT on the 24th? What?

just leave a little extra in the fuel bay. then after it switches when you bring your next load of blocks take out the extra old fuel to bring back and add to your supplies for making more blocks.

I put in enough fuel to take my POS to the end of the month, give or take a bit. then filled the rest with fuel blocks. I believe that was the whole point of the temporary double fuel bay size. I do not want to take any chances that my tower will offline before the fuel blocks kick in. I would hate to have BPO's in the cooker for +20 days only to have the jobs fail because I was to cheap to throw in a little extra fuel.

DT on the 24th. does *NO ONE* read anything anymore?

CCP stated in the devblogs (and/or the sticky) that they can't "seamlessly" make the change, which was why they haven't done blocks before ... and then someone (an intern?) said "hey guys, why not just do a cutover during a DT?"

Here's a brief re-enactment of what went down:

CCP Dev1 --> so these blocks ... can we code in both?
CCP Dev2 --> yeah ... but making sure that if they have enough ozone or oxygen for a tick before checking for enough blocks will be painful, and is possible to cause tears
CCP Dev1 --> OK, any better ideas then?
CCP Dev2 --> (silence)
Intern --> hey guys, how about making the switch at DT sometime?
CCP Dev1 --> Shocked that's brilliant!
CCP Dev2 --> We'll let the towers accept the fuel blocks, give the players a few days/weeks to get blocks in the towers, and then make the blocks the only valid stuff after a hard cutover during DT.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Yes, the whole point of the doubled size of the fuel bay (which is a temporary thing and will revert on the 24th) was so that we could load up with 4 weeks of old-style fuel + 4 weeks of new style fuel. Now that we're close to the date, I went for 3 weeks of old-style fuel (enough to take me to the 27th or so), then filled the rest with pellets.

Which makes the transition about as seamless as it could possibly be.

I believe even ccp suggesting having 3-4 days extra of regular pos fuel just in case. In other words, plan out fueling your pos til Jan 28th, but by the 23rd also have 2-3 weeks worth if fuel blocks in the fuel bay as well. This covers any minor glitches that may occur during the transition.

Thanks, i have seen that but i cant see them mentioning exactly when, i can only assume after DT on the day.

When someone says on the 24th to me that means as soon as it hits 00:00 on that day.

The blog you linked says:

Quote:
Towers will continue to use the original fuel types right up until this patch happens.

After this patch is applied, they will use fuel blocks exclusively for fuel.

Now, I don't remember any EVE patch being deployed without a downtime. Do you?

Now, because it's a patch, it might involve an extended downtime, and we have no idea yet how long would that be. Presumably towers will start consuming fuel blocks right from the start of the DT, but we don't know that for sure either.

In any case, play it safe and keep enough regular fuel to last until the 26th-27th. Or don't, but in that case, please post about your experiences on patch day so we can laugh.

Also if you intend to do it so that your normal fuel ends right on the clock when DT starts, do tell us and include system-planet-moon. We can then help liberate any silos and corp hangars at these (potentially) offline towers right after DT so they no longer cause any issues.

And we'll do that for free!

For wormhole POSes, you'll have to set up an entry WH for us, but I'm sure it won't be much of a trouble. Right?

While this *would* be fun ... you do realise you can't unanchor structures that are still "attached" to a CT (online or not), right?

Yes.

I'm looking hungrily at all those silos, corp hangars and other squishy things that are normally under the forcefield. Ones that once the POS goes offline, can be popped like pinatas. The ones that can contain lots and lots of juicy stuff.

ah, I was thinking "hisec" rather than "low" or "null" originally ... mostly, because, well, I'd expect that if you were running in low/null, you wouldn't be the ones asking questions, or expecting everything to go smoothly.

The list of features for the 24th has been published, and it's pretty long.

I would expect a long downtime and fuel accordingly.
