Personally, if I had to choose being being over tanked and being able to kill faster, I would choose over tanked. I would much rather take a little longer to complete a mission than to risk losing my ship or at the very least having to warp out when it gets too hot.

That's part of the reason I like a sniper fit. At 100km out, almost nothing is actually hitting and thus I don't have to worry about my armor tanking. Not to mention I am well outside of the Tracking Distrupter and Neuting ranges.

I've been playing around with a Navy Armageddon fit for closer fights, but I cant seem to find a good balance between armor tanking and DPS. At least enough to feel really comfortable...

I gotta say, having omitted to try sniper fits, I'm tempted lol

starting out favoring tank to gank makes a lot of sense. once you learn the missions, get better skills, and can afford it moving over to gank is nice. And I think that with amarr boats it is hard to get comfortable until you get into a nightmare or paladin.

personally I don't really like sniper fits they seem like an f1 snoozefest. At 100km you are typically doing less damage so that makes the missions take longer. And MJDs have a pretty long cooldown, if you rely on them too heavily you can run into issues.

For all those Paladin pilots out there:

[Paladin, Paladin fit]

Large Armor Repairer II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Heat Sink II
Heat Sink II
Heat Sink II
Heat Sink II
Tracking Enhancer II

Tracking Computer II, Tracking Speed Script
500MN Microwarpdrive II
Large Micro Jump Drive
Phased Weapon Navigation Array Generation Extron

Mega Pulse Laser II
Bastion Module I
Mega Pulse Laser II
Heavy Diminishing Power System Drain I
Mega Pulse Laser II
Small Tractor Beam II
Mega Pulse Laser II
[Empty High slot]

Large Energy Burst Aerator II
Large Energy Metastasis Adjuster I

Now, that said I will point out I'm a navigation snob. I like to move about, A LOT. Being off those warp-ins makes a ganker's job more difficult. I also abuse my alt booster character to limit the number of tank mods I need. I also invest in dps implants.

Why the target painter over a second tracking computer? Out of curiosity, how often do you utilize the vampire? (it seems at odds with a sniper setup)

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

my question is, why only fit for 50m on a 1b ship? Cry

Yes, I realize that - but at anything over 60km it begins to drastically lose effectiveness. And it still won't let you hit orbiting frigates (you'd need a web for that), so I just don't see how it's more beneficial over a second tracking computer. I guess if the 50m fit works, why spend more if you don't need to...

To the first point regarding isk. This character isn't the marader pilot. Aditionally.. im not going to talk about the bling because gankers do look through these forums. Yes i am that paranoid.
Point two. The target painter. Tracking is a function of gun traverse speed, target velocity AND target signature. The tp brings helps those big old myopic pulse lazers see small stuff.
point three. While the paladin can be one of the best snipers in the game, this particilar build is more of a brawler. I usually am fighting between 25 an 50 km from the targets. Perfect conflag range where webs do not matter.
