Well I can manually pilot, and use first person camera. If only I could figure out a feasible way to actually use a joystick.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

And maybe fix your turrets so they only fire out the front and use a manual trigger. While you're at it take away server ticks so that manually flying and shooting will actually be functional then split everyone onto different servers so it can handle the load. Oh wait, that would be a different game wouldn't it.

As for your joystick, with many joysticks you can already do that. Just map the stick axis to provide keyboard input instead of controller axis input. (saitek, thrustmaster etc) Now go have fun zooming through the asteroids and dying in fights because you have no idea whats going on around you.

If I could only find a way to turn my head in this thing... I am sure I could find some use for it.
As for now, I find myself bumping into asteroids, stations, gates, wrecks, you name it. Halp me, Im drunk!

I got a Saitek X52 from the scrapyard. Someone just threw it away.

Same with the Turtle beach X12 earforce headphones I use. All it needed was some contact cleaner dumped in the volume knob and the other earphone entirely worked again. The USB power plug is actually rusty.

But the saitek,

What do I possibly do in EVE with one of those? I've seen it used as a movie prop before. To power something up, or off. I think Valkyrie is more justified, but...

If you find a good one let us know, I've relegated first person cam to my D-scan forward angle and that is really the only time I use it.

You can tune your own orbits on things, but I've only been able to do it with large non moving objects, practiced a bit on one of those bobbing drone mother hive things and some epic music. Smaller object I tend to mess up orbits and oval too much or can't figure out which way I need to turn for how long and such getting hit in the process, turning slows you down.

Needs more practice and use first, someones gotta pioneer it and it aint gona be me.

It's also just fun to play with orientation sensors and all.... Spin a lot. There are also authentic ship noises, and some dude that says "get it started" or "getting started" or something every now and then. In fact turning off the music, the guns have a faint but VERY dramatic echo.

My first instinct was to hold right-click to look around and was disappointed it didn't work as I expected it to.

Pretty much. I guess the real problem is that we normally orbit things, meaning we don't really look at them directly. The first person camera would make sense if we were playing an fps game of some sort - point and shoot, which eve thankfully isn't. So aside from taking screenshots, making videos or just pretending to be a "real pilot" (isn't that what the Valkyrie is all about?) and apparently D-scanning as mentioned above, the feature seems pointless at the moment.
Maybe CCP have some plans for it...

All true and I know it's just novelty factor right now... But zooming around in 1st person is fun. Last night while running missions I set my Machariel to approach my drones (since the drones are always going directly at an npc, my mach is always pointed at them) and it was amazing, kill one NPC, then (as the drones fly off to attack another) the view would swing around to settle on the new course. Made the whole deal rather cinematic.

I don't care who knows this, but I did the same thing in my ceptor! I undocked my alt in a Carrier and used my manual flight controls on my ceptor to "Buzz" the flight deck tower on my Archon while screaming "I don't care if the pattern is full, I'm mother $%^&ing Ghost Rider!!" on teamspeak.. Now my alliance knows I'm crazy.

Just want to remind every one to PLEASE read the official feedback thread. Take note of some of the concerns that have been expressed and voice your opinions. If players don't speak up we can say good bye to the old camera and we'll all be stuck with this new "feature" whether we like it not.

1st person cam is more of a gimmick than a practical system anyways. Even devs said they hope it will be useful for film making. Think about it...why a pitch ladder in space? Nothing wrong with it, just don't expect it to suddenly turn into Jane's F-15 or rival the likes of LOMAC.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Map the joystick to keys.

Joystick North = Down Arrow
Joystick South = Up Arrow
Joystick West = Left Arrow
Joystick East = Right Arrow
Joystick Trigger = F1
