NPCs in a Data Site???

I'm obviously not new but I think replies to this might be useful for real newbies.

Since when are there NPCs back in hisec data sites?

And since when are hostile NPCs red crosses instead of red ship icons?

I was just doing a last forage for Research Components, and had several already stashed in my hold, when the data site I had just scanned down spawned a bunch of NPCs which blew me up instantaneously without red-boxing , or even yellow-boxing for that matter.

Wtf???

Ghost site maybe? Sounds like it. Did you scan it?

Crosses went a while ago. Soz.

[Edit] Hmmm . . . seems that I missed the Ghost Site switch from anomalies to cosmic signatures.

Damn. Lost a shedload of stuff there.

Might have been a covert site as well do you remember the name of it?

Don't remember the name.

It must have been a ghost site. That's what it behaved like, but I previously discounted that possibility as I thought they were anomalies - I had missed the update in Mortlake's link.

Red crosses ARE a bug, though, it should have been ship icons.

If you see them again in any PVE situation, create a bug report in-game.

Confirming there are no longer red crosses, now we shoot at tents, houses and barns some with foundations, some without.

Drones (like spider drones and such) are still crosses, methinks. Not like the old (Red Cross like - pun not intended actually), but like an X.

I found an angels site that was " blah blah secure blah" When i went in to hack the cans i hacked the first one and about got owned by a group of angels that warped in that had plus icons. I burned out of the site as fast as i could while scrammed and HP quickly disappearing. When i got so far out of the site the npcs disengaged. Then they did the strangest thing.... they took their site and went home. AKA warped the whole site away.

Actually, they blew up all the cans. You were in a ghost site my friend.

Happened to me, when they changed Ghost sites to showing as Data sites. Scared the f* out of me...

I'm going along, hacking these stations, and BAM my shields were gone, armor at 50% and these five Mallers show up and start shooting me...I panicked and ran. Also forgot 5 Navy Acolytes...

It sounds plausible enough tonight, but wait until tomorrow. Wait for the common sense of the morning.

Actually, the correct order is you warp into the site and have some time, the 4 NPCs show up and start their attacks, then the data cans blow up in between 5-15 seconds. I've been able to start and finish a hack during the time the NPCs warp in and the can went boom. After the cans go boom, the NPCs fire for a bit more then warp off. I usually am able to get all 4 cans now before they disappear,depending on how much time I get from the RNG (and there does appear to be variations).

To buck the popular trend, I began to Rage Start instead of Rage Quit.

...and every time I get another piece of Carbon, I know exactly what CCP is getting this Christmas.
