Make Starbase Defense Management useful

Make POS batteries a lot stronger than they are currently, but make their AI cause them to split up onto multiple targets and sort of shoot randomly. Then players with Starbase Defense Management skill and the proper POS operation roles could sit inside the POS and focus the weapons onto a single ship. With enough POS batteries all crewed by players, the POS could be nearly unattackable as the POS batteries would be able to overwhelm the logi or even blap ships when focused onto a single target.

Pos' can already pump out a good deal of dps as well their ai is easily manipulated.

So what exactly is your change this skill is already useful

This, as well as the fact that POS are on their way out, make this bizarre even for a Reaver Glitterstim thread.

We should keep POSes as an alternative way to do things.

They aren't being kept. The argument for that was a year or more ago, get over it.

if you feel any change to the game is not a good one or is not the best way to do it the time to voice that opinion never ends

This is more about the guns though. I assume something similar and using the same skill will be migrated to citadels. I just want to make sure the Starbase Defense Management skill actually ever gets used. Because so far as I have seen, no POS is actually capable of breaking a half-decent subcap logi chain, but the AI will focus fire every turret onto one ship, even if it's not the best target to shoot at. And when we're called to defend a POS, nobody ever asks if anyone has Starbase Defense Management.

This is possibly a statement as to how crappy POS's are in general. I'm betting they'll replace/refund the skill as it won't have much use on Citadels (afaik).

Let me help

It won't. That skill and its points will be refunded.

It should be no surprise that the ai exhibits terrible target selection. Especially in such an old and cobbled together code base as POS code. Breaking that logi chain would require a jam or two on the logi, a scram on the target and a few guns. Done.

Because even if most people have it trained a much smaller number of them actually have the roles to use it. Additionally, unless the pos bash is in highsec where there are no dreads or supers or Wspace where there's a mass issue outside of full evictions there little point to manning the guns (or jams) because dreads and supers don't care about ewar and they kill modules to fast to really be in any significant danger.

I'm right behind you
