Socket closing

Is there any way for me to change the path my game uses to connect to the eve servers? I've recently, the last month or 2, been having a constant socket loss problem and so ive been running the traceroute tool. Now my problem seems to be the same place every time.

I googled the ip from the trace route and I'm told its in England, and its not the first time that its been a problem seems it was a problem back in 2010 (http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=1431910)

I was wondering is they anyway for me to have the path changed? getting socket disconnects every few minutes, then when it doesn't happen spending the time sitting and wondering 'is it going to happen now?' isn't a relaxing way to play the game

I disconnect randomly several times a day the last 3 times while I was in fleet. Very annoying indeed.

A public VPN service is probably your best bet, if you really want to "bypass" this trouble spot. You'll need to route your EVE traffic through the VPN tunnel.

I have the same issue, even used the workaround to connect to the other port.

I have used a VPN tunnel, didn't help.

Disconnects usually happen to more then 1 player at the same moment (in fleets I hear this all the time).

It started after the launcher patch half december, which also reports status "unknown" a lot when I start it, where the servers are running fine.

I have reported it 2 weeks ago, still no answer on my ticket.

I too having been plagued with this issue , sometimes it wont happen for days , sometimes it happens 5 times a day - I sent in a ticket , they just basically just read the troubleshooting page to me , then said hopefully things will change with their new servers lol

All you can really control is the port the game uses. That won't be of much help unless you have software on your machine competing for use of a port. Most software will find another port to use all by itself, unless told not to, so there's really no need to monkey with any of that.

Socket closing has more to do with how your signal is routed from your machine to EVE's servers with as many as 20 places it can get hung up. Some ISPs even arbitrarily drop packets to manage high traffic times. SO....do a search for your problem on the forum search. THEN do a google search on the subject. That'll give you a better sense of what you're dealing with.

Unfortunately for the nature of socket closings, there's very little you can do with regard to how EVE is configured on your machine. Further, it's highly unlikely the problem has anything to do with EVE. It is likely you're getting frequent socket closures but only notice those that occur when you're gaming.

I've been experiencing more "socket closed" errors than normal over the past couple weeks too. It's annoying. People may claim it has nothing to do with the client (though it absolutely has in the past) but you'll notice that these complaints are always clustered....and almost always right after a patch. It's pretty difficult to believe we all have the same ISP and get dropped for the same reasons. I usually have zero issues playing EVE.

i played 3 years with having maybe 2 socket closed errors... i have new internet since 2 weeks and i am getting multiple ones per day now, my friends though didn't seem to have these problems...

it's really annoying... also there are some lags from time to time where everything reacts like it was on 5 second server ticks... have to sort this with my isp first though i think.

your issue is your new isp. Socket closed, unless a massive one, have nothing to do with eve servers.

The 2 time I've recorded this has been the same result

07/02/16 - 6:00am 20 213-152.240-250.PXu259.above.net [213.152.240.250] reports: Destination net unreachable.

09/02/16 - 6:45pm 20 213-152.240-250.PXu259.above.net [213.152.240.250] reports: Destination net unreachable.

As my original post said its in england. I think CCP need to arrange for the EVE-Ninjas to pay them a visit and make them get their **** together.
Alernatively CCP could consider moving the servers to Australia, therefor bypassing stupid england

Now I'm only slightly biased, but i think the second option is a good idea

Check your local network first.

Example: I had a bad router, and bad cabling. Once both were replaced, no more problems.

This is why we have socket wrenches.

You could always send one to the router in question with a note attached: "Socket keeps getting closed, please fix."

yeah in my case its not local network this is the only thing that has this problem, as I type I'm doing another trace route which when i go and check it I'm sure it'll be the same as the last 2 times that ive recorded it. aaaaand it was

09/02/16 - 11:07pm 20 213-152.240-250.PXu259.above.net [213.152.240.250] reports: Destination net unreachable.

now I'm not a network engineer or anything but if the trace route works all the way to 19 then at 20 it comes back with destination net unreachable, I'm left with the feeling that this is the problem and that there is crap all i can do about it, having said that I'm not sure CCP can do anything about it either, its just an unfortunate pathing that leaves the game difficult to play for any length of time

Having many disconnects too since last couple of months. Nothing before that. Also seems that same time others in fleet get it too.

Its getting to the point I may not play anymore because I have lost quite a few ships due to this. Nothing worse than logging back into the middle of the enemy fleet. Big smile

Same for me and otbers in my alliance. We all get socket closed at the same time and we are on different isp and in different countries.
CCP say it is my connetion and nothing to do with them.
But how can it just be my connection when others get socket closed at the same time.

I started having this towards the end of last year whilst multi-boxing mainly and running a wireless connection from desktop pc.

After some checking in my modem settings and checking all wireless devices connected, it turned out to be my sons xbox, or at time my partners phone.
From what i could see from the x-box side of things is that it was assigning the same i-p address that my computer was on, thus interfering with my connection and causing packet loss and ultimately socket closed.

After hours of trying to assign a new static i-p to his x-box , both on the system itself and on the modem, i gave up and gave his x-box a hard-wired connection, not had issues of socket closed since.

Might help some of you might not, i'm just putting it out there for ya in-case:p

And i will just say he used to have problems with his xbox all the time aswell, His NAT-TYPE would always be in strict mode, making him able to talk to his mates but unable to join any partys or groups and play alongside. Not had a problem since being plugged in.Lol

@CCP :

I was able to provide myself a VPN via Surfnet and low and behold : No issues anymore. BUT It screw over my mail and stuff so I can only activate the vpn to play and then wait with mails etc until done playing.

What exactly do I have to tell my provider? What information can I give them to sort the issues there? (I already use the work around connecting to the other port).?

Don't tell me to send them the network diagnostics, because hey :

Starting ping for client.eveonline.com

Pinging client.eveonline.com [87.237.39.208] with 32 bytes of data:

Ping statistics for 87.237.39.208:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss)

They'll start laughing when I send them this.

It's obvious where the problem is. When a random number of people from different locations say that the problem started mid December of 2015, the problem started with that patch.

I'm beginning to think that CCP just doesn't have any network experts on their payroll.

Maybe they could take all those skills lost in the skill trading process and offer them as a reward!

From Eve LogLite:

Max retries exceeded with url: /metrics (Caused by "class 'socket.error'": [Errno 10060] A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond: 'connect operation system fail')",)

What does, "established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond".

Isn't CCP the host?
