Let's talk Customs Offices

It can;t be as easy as blowing up Interbus, hauling a gantry and acnhoring, dumping the upgrades in the gantry and pressing GO...

So, aside from having to defend your Customs Office, what is the catch that i'm missing? This seems too simple to be a part of EVE.


If I were to get a group of guys together, pop an Interbus office in lowsec and NEVER replace it with my own. Will a new Interbus office show up or will the planet be unusable until a POC is installed?

...Can't. Tell. If ...Troll? Or Serious....

It seems like there is a something I'm missing. I've read a few different articles about them and it seems too simple to be a real part of EVE. nothing in EVE is this simple.


Destroy Interbus
Deploy your Gantry
Upgrade Gantry to Customs office
Defend if necessary


It just seems like there is some sort of big piece I have overlooked.... Especially since deploying a POS is much more complicated than that and takes regular upkeep.

You don't need standings in LS? You don't need any sort of fuel source? I can't find anything indicating these, or anything else, are needed to deploy a POC.

Well once poco is up, you can set stadings and taxes for each of the standings. Also if you own one you dont have to pay tax money to import and export and can charge others.

They also have a 1 day reinforce mode like a pos.

that is the main reason i am doing this i've already paid MILLIONS in import/export taxes and i'm tired of it.... i could have paid for a POCO already with the amount of taxes i've paid.

You're correct in stating that this is one of the simplest and easy to use features introduced in a long time.

The only real catch is once you put it up you have to keep it. While CO's will never be the conflict generators that Dispro moons are, the relative ease with which they can be destroyed or transferred makes them tempting targets. Not to mention the ease of ownership. No fuel, no charters, no standings = pure profit if you steal one and decent profits even if you build and put it up yourself.

No you couldn't. POCO's are NOT a money maker.

No you couldn't. POCO's are NOT a money maker.


Yes you could, whether or not the POCO generates its own profits is irrelevant when looking at reducing tax costs.

Excuse me sir, this is the international literacy board speaking. Did you READ his post?

He was stating that he had paid enough taxes to NPC POCOs to equal the value of a player POCO, not that he has made enough using a POCO to buy another POCO.

And I REALLY doubt that he has put in that amount of money. Go look at the Dev feedback thread on this topic. PI hasn't been around long enough for him to have put in that much. The straight up economics do not rate this as an investment - not even junk bond grade. The only reason to put in a POCO is to lock out competitors.

The more people believe this, the less effort POCO owners need to put into defending their infrastructure. My characters have already paid more than enough in import/export fees to buy a POCO. It would have paid for two of them if I was paying the Interbus tax rate. That is after one month of running at much less than my full capacity. I expect that I am not the only one using those planets. A moderately busy POCO will pay for itself fairly quickly.

I may have exaggerated it probably feels like i've spent much more than I actually have.... but a simple search of the markets (eve-central) will reveal that it only costs about 100M to purchase a gantry. EVERYTHING else can be manufactured. (The gantry can too if you get the BPC)


And if you have enough toons doing enough PI.... yes you could have paid for one already.

Stealing? How do you go about stealing a POCO? or Defending against theft for that matter... I thought to take the spot you had to destroy the player one, not steal it.

Steal might not be the best word to use. POCO's are '' transferable'' from one corp to another. A common tactic I'm seeing of late is re-inforcing someone's CO then ' negotiating' a free transfer in return for blue standings and 0% tax. This avoids the CO being destroyed and the attacker having to put up a new one. The zero tax to the previous owner softens the blow a bit. This presupposes that you've got the firepower to genuinely make them believe that you can and will destroy it.

As to the question of them being profitable, that's hard to say. A '' good '' planet with a healthy customer base can most certainly be profitable. Remember the ' no upkeep '' part of the equation. You wont get Chribba rich but you might see yourself with a few bucks for not much effort.

Two catches:

First catch is anyone can come up and shoot your 100mil isk no gun POCU and if you dont have anough firepower on your side, you cant do anything about it. Second catch is its about as fun to shoot as a POS.

It is going to be interesting to see if these POCU interact in anyway with DUST514.

When it comes to PvP, I am like a chiwawa hanging from a grizzley bears pair of wrinklies for dear life.

Seeing as the recharge of the shiels is like 50,000 seconds (not sure if my calcs are correct) that makes it regen shield at 200/s? So you'd need some more firepower than a frig I think.
