Hey hey,

I currently returned to EVE online after I played it back in 2004 for a month of two. After doing the turtorial and getting to know the very basic I decided to get into mining to get the isk going. But I dont wanna get stuck with perfect mining yield in high sec mining veldspar and the likes. Which was one of the reasons I left back then (and WoW).

I never seen nullsec or lowsec cause it always seemed too dangerous and had the feeling that even coming close to the gate leading to it would hurt me allready. I want to see the action this time around.

Even if I choose a mining carreer I want it to be to keep a POS fueled up or to supply boosters instead of mining trit and focussing on ISK which shouldn't be the main reason.

I wanna defend stuff, attack emenies, learn to hunt, learn to survive and practise to become an expert this time and enjoy the game.

I have been reading around alot about what and how but feel I'm in need of someone willing to teach an appentice.

If someone is willing to share his knowlegde and willing to train a newbie up then please contact me ingame of leave a message here.

Tash

Best bet would be Eve University. A corp specialized to train new people and prepare them for "real life" in EVE.

Your first step, seeing the light, has been taken! Welcome to the world of exciting living!

I really suggest that you just get out there and do it. Go to lowsec. Go to nulsec. Take the plunge and get killed. Try kill someone and if you find it fun, keep doing it. You will eventually figure out a way to do it profitably. There are endless resources out there for people like you online. Read read read.

Good luck.

I am a "pirate" of sorts (I suppose), but if you would like to chat, give me a shout in game.

1. The first thing to understand is that your perspective is somewhat unique. There are the people who want to carebear, and then there are people who hate carebearing and only want to blow stuff up. The desire to do both will make it somewhat difficult to find people of a like mind. Finding a corporation that does both will be equally as challenging, because many say that they can do both but that "attempt" at diversity never ends up going very well for them.

So try not to get stuck somewhere that you don't want to be will be suggestion 1.
Look at what a corp/alliance is actually doing, not what they are "planning to do" but never get around to accomplishing.

2. When i did my PVP Classes, the first thing I told everyone was "first you learn how not to die. After you know how not to die, you can from that moment on choose your battles, and then you learn how to kill." Basically, when you can choose your fights you can start winning them.

3. Learn how a shuttle is your best friend.

Shuttles warp fast and are so tiny that ships have trouble targeting them. I suggest that you hop in one and go cruising around low sec. Trust me on this... you will be pretty safe. Most people wont even bother with you. Just keep warping around and you are mostly untouchable.

I can probably teach you allot more but my time in EVE is very limited these days. Shoot me an EVE mail with some questions and I will answer them probably once every 24 hours.

Thanks for all the info so far, I will look into that for sure.

Regarding the last reply:

Its not like I wanna do everything or even everything good, I know eve is a game where you need to specialize into something to do well.

For example I like mining but not when it only to get ISK in high sec. Mining is more fun if it has a good objective like getting materials too support wars and the like, not as a mindless refiner/seller in jita

Its are mainly things you say in point 3 im in need to teaching. Keep warping around keeps me safe you say but those are the things I dont really understand. What use does it have to keep in warp as much as possible and where do I warp too (moons, belts, planets, stations) and do I warp to something else right away constantly?

I will head to nullsec and explore some, the only thing I'm affraid of that I'm might not be welcome by the people holding that space and KoS for the rest of my eve time (with no change of possibly joining them in the future). As said I have no idea what to expect and I dont think there is an information desk at the entrances of nullsec.

Feel free to provide more information about the thread, all help is appriciated and welcome.

EVE is very capitalist. It is very rare to see corp/alliance level "mining for a cause" and in cases where you see it, the cause is often "fatten the pocket of the alliance leader" (See: Intrepid Crossing).

When you mine in high sec and sell the stuff at Jita market, you are mining materials to support wars. The only special thing is that you do not choose which wars you support. Your ore/minerals will be bought by an industrialist who also does not choose which wars they support. And those ships and modules they manufacture and put on the market that are used to fight wars and populate killboards with billions and billions of losses... they support the wars.

Most large alliances fund their wars through moon mining and (super)capital construction. Any profits from these activities that are not spent on maintaining sov or resupplying grunts that fly in fleets that project power goes to the war chests of alliance leaders. Mining is rarely a factor, the ISK/hr ratio just isn't there. The only real exception is the drone regions (where you "mine" using ravens and cruise missiles and the red crosses drop drone poo that refines into minerals. Lots of minerals).

Leave mining to bad players. If you need mins buy them.

You don't know how to run because you don't know how to hunt. If you want to know what keeps you alive, do you ask the bunny or the hunter? Find a corp that does what you want to do. Check their killboard if they are active in game when you are active in game. Bring ISK, you will lose ships. Find the knowledgeable players in that corp and join them. If they don't got knowledgeable players (timer based PvP gets you that) leave that corp and go somewhere else.

If you take all the sand out of the box, only the cat poo will remain.

Facts In Bulletins

* If someone shoots at you then they have aggression for 60 seconds. That means that they cannot dock or cross a stargate in that period of time. So if you are at 0KM sitting on a stargate, and a pirate warps on top of you... don't shoot him. Wait for him to shoot you first THEN jump through the gate. He cannot follow you.

* In low sec just keep warping between the stargates and/or stations. Small stuff wont tackle you because the gate/station guns will one shot kill them. That means that you do not have to worry about any frigate class ship that you see in low sec, they will not be firing first. It is a guaranteed loss on their end.

* A shuttle can land, align and warp away faster then most ships can score a lock. That is what makes them so good in low sec, provided that you are near a stargate or a station. Anything that can target you won't attack you, for fear of getting one volleyed. Thus, in a shuttle you are in no real danger if you do not warp to a planet or asteroid belt. That was the very first thing I learned when I started PVP'ing "Shuttles are your best friend".

Go try it Lol
It will work...

I'm not sure if our schedules will align, but if you'd like to chat in game sometime feel free to look me up. I'm with a small corp that has specialized in making our living out in deep 0.0 and wormhole space. I can't tell you how many times over the years we've been told that only big alliances can thrive in deep space, or that we "weren't allowed" to be in a certain area. There are skills, tactics, and methods that allow even the smallest organizations, if they have brains and backbone, to survive and thrive in the most hostile of regions.

I would scroll through the corporation recruitment section and look at what is being offered. The very first one that is listed offers this; the underline parts seem perfect for you. I'm not affiliated wtih these guys, they just happened to be the first post when I checked.

what we offer,
all training necessary for industry and pvp
mining ops and mission ops
a chain of command which u can advance and given more responsibility.
ship replacement
a great family in which you are welcome and not ignored

A good corporation that fits your lifestyle is crucial to you enjoying the game and sticking around. I'm a month old player myself and would have quit the very first week due to boredom if not for finding a good corporation.

Your best bet is to find a corp with people who are willing to show you how things work. Eve uni has already been mentioned and would be a great choise for this.

If you do not want to join the uni im adding in a link with a small guide on how to find the corp that can fit your needs and wishes. I hope it can be of some help and i wish you the best of luck Smile

Join the United Hisec Front -UHF-. They exist SOLELY for teaching people about the wonders of nullsec.
Personally I'd say avoid Eve Uni, they teach you to be mice and not men :P
Agony Unleashed do excelent PVP classes.
RvB is also a great way to learn PvP in a slightly safer environment

Agony Runs a number of Public PvP courses, that teach many aspects of PvP. We've also made our wiki public, meaning you can read the info without having to have paid for the class. Every class includes a lenghty Roam through nullsec, applying what we teach!

Our next PvP Basic class is Jan 13 & 14 @ 1800 EvE time. If this is something you are interested in, send me a PM.
