Ok...

So I'm going to Fanfest for the first time this year (whoop), really can't wait. But what I would like to know is why do some of the event prices over of course of the three days cost more than the ticket for FanFest it's self? Like the SOE tour / access to the party on the Sat night is nigh on $300. Is there something that I'm missing that you get while there (apart from having an awesome time to good music)? Or is it pure access only and still pay for drinks all night etc?

Also any recommendations / advice for s first time FanFest goer would be cool Big smile

Fly safe guys

It'll be my first time as well, as for the prices of some events...I can't justify paying that much so I haven't booked any.

Solecist Project...." They refuse to play by the rules and laws of the game and use it as excuse ..." " They don't care about how you play as long as they get to play how they want."

Welcome to EVE.

CCP - squeezing absurd revenue streams from starry-eyed players since 2003

Glad you guys are coming over! You're going to have an amazing time :)

Just to add some insight on the cost of things, we don't make a dime off Fanfest. It's not there to make us money. We host Fanfest because of the great effect it has on the community and relationships between players and between players and staff. We have to charge enough to make at least a chunk of the cost back, but we're not in it for the margins.

I'd definitely recommend a few extra days in Iceland and the extra activities such as tours outside the city. It makes for a great vacation.

If you have any questions, shoot! CCP Ruffige and CCP Curtis are also doing an AMA about Fanfest and Iceland on /r/eve tomorrow at 13:00 EVE time.

That's great to hear that you don't budget off of fanfest. Maybe Iceland should give you some kickbacks or tax breaks because of the tourism you promote. What percentage of tourism do you guys think you contribute to Reykjavik?

The extras are well... extra... so no problem in my book.

Unfortunately the steep increase in the cost of the principal convention ticket this year dissuaded me from making what was quickly becoming an annual pilgrimage to Iceland.

Bring warm clothes. It might be cold so plan accordingly.

Bring a lot of money, Iceland is expensive or things like food. An example, when the wife and i went in 2007 (i don;t have a good example for last year cause i did not check the prices) we went to dinner at a sit down place (i dunno the name and it was close tot he old venue so no idea where it is anymore) I got a burger and i think she got a lamb steak, and i got a soda. Total was $85. just be aware that it will cost you more.

The wife still swears icelands tap water is the best she has ever had. so there is that,

Um.. just have a good time. Golden circle tour is fun, and the blue lagoon is cool

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

It's not a cheap here for sure but exchange rates are a lot more favorable now than in 2007 since we were in the middle of the biggest financial bubble ever. The dollar was like 70-80 kr, now you get 130 kr for the dollar. Our currency was basically cut in half and tourism has boomed since.
