Hybrid turret L4 Mission ship

Hi guys,

For L4's I've been using a Hyperion, trying to snipe. Trying to fit a Hyperion for sniping is 'cumbersome', especially with my Sentry drone skill being low so I can't complement low turret DPS with drones really well yet. So I've fallen back to a Raven or Tengu for L4's for now while I have drone skills training. But T3/missiles is becoming boring for me and I want to use turrets on this char, mainly hybrids (Caldari/Gallente ships trained mostly, easy access).

What ships would you recommend and how would you fit them? Stacking Tracking Computers/Sensor Boosters ,depending on ammo/damage, on my Hyperion to get range is driving me mental Pirate and I really don't feel like fitting blasters on it :'D

Thanks!

edit: realised I should've maybe posted in ships & modules, sorry!

I've found the Kronos to be really effective in this role. You don't need drone skills, but really good gunnery skills are a must.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Yeah I've read your forum post on it, really motivated me to train for it! (thanks!) Was thinking after drone-related skills I'd finally queue up Gallente Battleship 5 and AWU 5 (so, Kronos is gonna take me a while :P)

If CCP releases the new SP injection feature that's on-track for February, it could make a lot of those SP grinds less of a chore...

Yeah, looking forward to it. Curious about the pricing! Would make a month's worth of training time a hell of a lot more bearable!

I think it may be prohibitively expensive at the outset, but I plan on siphoning a lot of wasted skills (mining, PI, defender missiles, etc.) for redistribution.

I've made a few posts about this, like here https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6274864#post6274864

a megathron fit
magnetic field stabilizer II
magnetic field stabilizer II
magnetic field stabilizer II
Tracking enhancer II
Signal Amplifer II
Co-processor II
Co-processor II

Pith C type X-large shield booster
Shield boost Amp II
Adaptive invul field II
Large micro jumpdrive

425 mm Railgun II

Large anti thermal screen reinforcer II
Large anti kinetic screen Reinforcer II
Large anit Em screen reinforcer II

This fit is superior to the sniper rokh fits that you can put together with hybrids. Rokh dps is anemic and takes a while to kill things, this is better. I would armor fit this if I had any arm rep skills, but I don't.

The key point about the sniper fits is to get your target lock range comfortably over 105-120km. I normally do this with a sig amp or a senor booster. Use a MJD to get you out to range. I sometimes fit an after burner as well as an mjd, instead of the invulfield. I don't really like to though as sometimes I "out run" my targets and lose lock which is annoying. Its nice to slow boat in the general direction away from them.

The tank only has cap life for a min or something, but thats ok its only there to get you to range for those missions where you land on top of the npcs. Half the time I don't even use it.

Note: for the mega you are really tight on cpu (same with vindi) if you try to shield tank. This is why I end up using co-procs and not being able to use warp speed rigs.

A kronos (which I can't fly unlike the above fit which I do) is frankly wasted sniping in my opinion. With that much raw no effort tank combined with op blasters hitting out to 40km you could do things with that mara that would make my megathron cry itself to sleep.

Other ships you could use are domi (more drones), Rokh ( as mentioned bad dps), Maelstrom (arty not hybrids). So I think its the megathron your looking for.

Fit rails and use a megathron (or dominix if you have nice drone skills as well)

Then upgrade to either a navy megathron, a vindicator or a navy dominix depending on skills/preference. Vindi is probably the weakest of the three (when fit with rails) but also the cheapest at the moment, navy domi has more leaning towards drone DPS and the navy mega is probably the strongest rail hull overall.

Then train up marauders and put blasters on a Kronos for the strongest hybrid mission boat.

but what would I know, I'm just a salvager

Lol, yup. I think there's a lot of people who will be losing a shitload of PI skills.

The market will adjust afterwards, the injectors and extractors will be cheap, but you'll be paying for the time.

The thing about sniping is that it's generally used by low SP characters while they build skills, and then you get either a marauder or pirate/navy ship with range bonus after you have enough SP. Kronos is a great marauder but anything but a blaster Kronos is a waste.

Would you recommend blasters on the Hyperion for L4's? If you do, what would you fit in the lows? Blasters would make things a lot easier but I'm thinking a single rep wouldn't suffice?

Also, I'm mainly going for minimal ISK investment. T1 BS, just T2 fit, no shiny modules or anything except for the hardeners and rep.

Blasters are really bad for PvE because of such a short range limitation - firstly you need to tank more when fighting up close and secondly you'll waste a lot of time getting close enough to apply your damage.

Flying the Tengu is probably the best bet if you have good Tengu skills for now. Its a medium speed full clear kind of ship and its quite hasty at blitzing. I would stay away from blasters until I had T2 blasters trained, which in fact I did. The only mission ship that I found was decent without full t2 weapons was the Machariel.

I am playing around on PYFA right now, but I cant really tell what "low skills" are for you, so I cant see what the final setup would do. So here are some rules of thumb...

The more DPS you have, the less cap stability you need. I don't think I have a marauder with more than 1 minute of capacitor.

Sentry drone skills are essential to the Hyperion if you want to snipe with it, but light drone skills are critical for taking out frigs. Only frigs scram you and scramming is basically the number one cause of death in a mission.

Don't bother with a prop mod at low skill levels. Dont bother with any velocity or inertia rigs or mods either. They help you maximize income at higher levels, but they dont help you live.

Which is why in theory Autocannons and Pulse are also a "bad choice" for PvE. Again, it scales with SP. Blasters do suck with low SP, but when you start stacking range bonuses they are all decent. By the time you get to Pirate/Marauder ships with the skills for tracking computers they are quite capable.

Nah I'm done with the tengu for now. I've been flying 1000 dps Hamgu in L4 for so long it's boring now. And compared to a non-shiny fit/T2 fit BS, the shiny fit Tengu is too big of an ISK investment.

In a couple of days I'll have T2 large railguns trained. I have Sentry Drone Interfacing 1 (lolz), rest of my drone skills besides heavies and drone interfacing 5 are maxed

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm gonna do some EFT puzzling o/

Those people hyping on the SP Injectors: They will not be cheap. The extractors will be in the New Eden Store. They will cost aurum to buy at first, but will eventually show up on the market; probably at exorbitant prices. If the extractors are expensive, you can bet the injectors will be twice as expensive.

That's why pulse pally with Scorch is on top for damage application ^_^
I changed my fit a little to a semi-pvp fit in case people try to bait me haha! (Also being a merc)
Edit: I'm looking to sit in a mach/vargur in a short time, I've heard good things about those two for L4s

Injectors and extractors will be expensive... and will be useless for people with above 50m sp imo
I, for one, won't use the damn thing because I'm a patient dude (unless I'm camping you XD)
