Why some game maker has not dusted off the old Wing Commander series and updated it with modern graphics is beyond me.

It was the best series during its day.


CCP, buy the rights and re-do it. I can be worth more than WoD will ever be.

Space games died in the nineties. No one plays them anymore. Nowadays it's all about zombies.

I'm inclined to agree with this, despite having been a WC fan from #1. Still recall "fondly" how my 20mb HDD could not fit WC2 + boot files. I need to boot off a 5.25 inch to run the game.

But even if they re-did it now with updated graphics, I can't see it being popular beyond those of us who has a nostalgic attachment to the title.

Much as I'd like it P

Edit: Of course there are similar titles. Sol Exodus is in development now ...

They have turbine engines on their fighters ffs. Turbines in space. I love it!

Thanks for the throwback. I'd love if Eve had more than the standard MMO Target, hit with some module approach that most MMO's take with just a few complications added on. I absolutely loved the wing commander series as a kid, being a small child and fighting the kilrathi.

I've been asking for some form of more involved controls like throttle and such, I hate click and point or click and approach, personally. Such is life.

Edit: They just added 3rd person camera and reverse flight 3 days ago. =/

I know I don't play any more but conquerable stations, player made missions, multi person cap ships, android phone client.

They are really coming into their own.

Also, they have to be quiet on their spaceship command deck and don't walk around, or the nasty ebil bad guys will hear them from the other side of the moon.

Hell, given the logic thinking drugged cat tripping over a keyboard let's-smash-our-heads-in-with-frying-pans-and-see-what-comes-out of that film, you could consider EVE the next ultra-realistic part of the WC saga, what with its submarines in WD40 space physics and all.

You know, when first writing the description in that post, I was thinking if I should go on making some less than subtle reference implying that the creators of the film would use those crackhead children in some kind of paedo slave ring, but chose to go for something more understated instead… Now that I think of what's actually in it, I'm beginning to regret that decision. **** that movie.
