There is NO mystery here!!!

This is how CCP looks to a lot of the player base, past, current and future:

CCP: "Ooo let's make a game where people can scam, steal, be pirates and basically entertain themselves at others expense and let's focus on that player segment at the expense of the others!"
Trolls: "YAY!!!"

CCP: "Damn, we need to get more players into our game. Any suggestions?"
Trolls: *crickets*

There's no mystery here.

I think CCP can have their cake and eat it too with EVE but not without a fundamental attitude readjustment about their player base.

EVE is entertainment without risk and a way to spend time. The whole carebear vs nullbear conflict is foolish.

There is ZERO risk in EVE, as in zip, nada.

NOTHING in EVE can't be repaired with time except reputation.

In real life people people die once. They get fined, incarcerated, beaten and killed for what they do in EVE on a daily basis with impunity.

Fear controls many people's Real Life behavior and there is NOTHING to fear in EVE.

EVE mimics almost NOTHING about the harsh realities of real life. Real Life hits back and hits hard and hits permanently.

Why not work on a game for more people to enjoy instead of pretending piracy and ganking and 0.0 PVP is really that special or unique?

Bear

EDIT: To be clear I have no issue with scams and piracy and ganking per se, just an issue with the idea that those oppressive elements really need that much focus when CCP could just have made EVE a PVP grind if that was really what they were after. They didn't instead they made a much larger game and then mostly focused on the PVP grind when the majority of players don't entertain themselves mostly much less exclusively in PVP.

Eve mimics nothing in real life?

I get my ship blown up, that's 50mil down the hole that I'll never see again.

I crash my car and it's totaled. That's 10 grand down the hole that I'll never see again.

Some people's grasp on what's going on is sometimes hilarious.

Personally, I like the drinking/reacharound metaphor. All we have is what CCP says and does and what the CSM says and does and they clearly have been skewed towards 0.0 for the entire nearly eight years this game has been in business

I DO think CCP left millions of ISK on the table and I DO think they could have been up to at least a million+ subscriptions if they didn't concentrate so hard on pleasing the player population most capable of killing their sales and retention.

If the majority of people who came to EVE came for the 0.0 lifestyle we wouldn't be having this conversation and subscription numbers would be higher.

But then, as others have stated, perhaps that is EXACTLY what CCP wants, although from a business, entertainment and brand perspective I have no idea why they would want to take money out of their own pocket.

Actually let's forget the ISK. Why not tweak and polish the game from top to bottom for as many players as possible? More players means more interaction and more targets.

I -think- that the thing which makes EVE special is rather free pvp system.

However my opinion that improving this system has gone wrong ways many times. Actual piracy has been made pretty difficult while rewards for those rare occassions you actually manage to catch something has been made pretty much 0.

Basically it seems current philosophy is that pvp should not give you any reward except killmail and should only involve fleets combined of combat ships shooting each other.

This pretty much reminds me of carebearish arena pvp games and doesn't feel fun at all. I enjoy causing losses to other people while hopefully suffering less myself. In current situtation losses don't really matter so much and you really don't get much reward for winning either, especially compared to time effort you have to put in pvp most of time. It seems to me that we're missing some excitement from whole thing.

Just playing for another battlereport doesn't seem enough to keep me playing.

Yes, misinformed CCP catering to the evil 99% of Nullsec players. Instead they need to invest time into helping out the 1% who plays in highsec.

Thank you for once again trolling against trolling, thus contributing to the trolling problem. Here's a hurr durr for your efforts.Lol

Oh and another example of calling someone a coward...in a game. Wow, sick burn bro. Seriously, what are you, twelve?

Besides, in a game full of politics and intrigue it makes PERFECT sense to use alts on the forums. I still don't understand the CAOD ban since all it did was make things worse and promotes trolling from people like you.

i will never understand what drives people to rage on forums at people who are quite open about how much they enjoy this sort of impotent rage

i'll show you, i'll give you exactly what you want

and the best thing is he's too dumb to get it even when i lay it out here, it's like when we recruitment scam people and tell people to put the code "lolscammed' in their bio when they fly on down to vfk

Since he just biomassed himself out of humiliation does this mean that now we do need to create him?
