Dante's Dumb Nostalgic Request: Bring Back the Old News

It's okay to be blinded (or perhaps wearing the shades of) nostalgia, so long as it's admitted, right? Right.

A little trip down memory road. Back in the day, my favorite thing to do when traveling space, was to click on the bulletin boards and read all the stories of all the happenings in space. More than let me know what was going on in the game world between all the mega-entities that I was still trying to wrap my head around, it gave me ideas and goals of my own. The battles in null, the corp thefts, the rise and fall of these thousands strong alliances.

While I was still very new, it gave me that hope that I think a lot of new pilots have, when a little hard work and clever scheming, might propel ones name from obscure, to known by all. For myself, it drew me more into the digital world.

In addition, I really miss the lore friendly stories that not only helped to paint the picture of the game world, but also explained a lot of the mechanics in a lore friendly manner. For a lot of people, this may not be a huge deal, but for myself, it helped pull me into the story of the game world.

I know that all these things take a lot of time. I also know that the work involved isn't always appreciated, or that their returns aren't as tangible as say: new ships, space, mechanics, etc. All this knowledge aside, I still want the old news, and the stories, back.

I can live without them, but I don't know why anyone would.

Ooh, this sounds like something wonderful. I don't remember anything like that news, but I do kinda feel its lack.

+10

If memory serves, the news reported was a corp/player pilots, that did so. How much CCP backing they had, or affiliated, I do not know. It was pretty awesome to undock, hit the bulletin board, and read about the BoB dismantling.

I am turning all scope news and player created ads for fictional content to format that can be read by game, so I can have a CQ screen always full of content.

I'd like to see tutorials in the captains quaters, as well as news.
but yeah, getting news while traveling is a great idea..

It gives you something to do while warping around.

While we are at these billboards, dont you think, that it should show us text messages and news like in CQ, in maybe something what would look like modified hacking window? Game would feel a lot more enjoyable meanwhile warp, after them throwing away the IGB (ingame browser).

I like the idea. I'd also like to see them reintroduce the Gallente 'Pleasure Station', which was a semi-urban appearing station background, and that news feed could be part of it.

You'd have to pay somebody to write the story the news stories would then be about. Writers, despite popular belief, don't like to work for starvation wages, and if you've just let a percentage of your staff go - while dropping the standard for those who remain so the low-end ability is competitive, it's highly likely you don't have the juice to pay a pro...like me (hint hint) to generate content.

As long as the tale of the hunt is told by the hunter, and not the lion, it will favor the hunter.

I think CCP have guys who write stories, but they are also in position of other things, so Its not like they will be creating stuff daily.
But it would be nice to see a mention daily, about what is happening in the game. Generating content automatically may become a thing in the future, module that would create reports about industry for example. Things like reviewing user content would need one man to constantly sit thru the sites and write and publish. Procedurally generated news would be really boring after 10th time. You would notice the pattern emerging.
