Megathron PVE fit: suggestions wanted

Okay before I ask I know a Megathron is best fit for hull tanking and might be somewhat useless in doing what I'm about to propose BUT I'm going to be attempting shield tanking in PVE lvl4 if possible. I have browsed Uniwiki and other places but their fits don't have what I'm looking for in shield tanking and I'm piecing together a fit from different resources.
in the case of shield tanking becoming a failure (but it can be done!) I can always reference Uniwiki.
also I have just bought a Megathron Navy Issue and fitting would be about the same +1 tractor beam!

my main questions are; what should I fit in the med slots? and can I go without a microwarpdrive?

but to a lesser extent; how would you fit a Megathron for lvl4 pve using shield tanking? and maybe even not shield tanking? am I just plain silly? especially for attempting pve in a Megathron with shield tanking?

am I in the middle of nullsec? seems like I am but I might not be. :P

Personally I wouldn't shield tank it (it has 8 lows: hint #1) but if you insist...

Mids would be mjd and 3 slot shield tank.
Lows would be a sensor signal thingy (for lock range), 3 te's and 4 magstabs. Possibly swap a magstab for a dcu in tougher missions.
Rigs for cap or fitting as required.

Your wrong its best fit for armour tanking. one LAR and 2 hardners.

Still a shield fit hmmn? its doable and its better then the rokh. heres a fit I use

magnetic field stabilizer II
magnetic field stabilizer II
magnetic field stabilizer II
Tracking enhancer II
Signal Amplifer II
Co-processor II
Co-processor II

Pith C type X-large shield booster
Shield boost Amp II
Adaptive invul field II
Large micro jumpdrive

425 mm Railgun II

Large anti thermal screen reinforcer II
Large anti kinetic screen Reinforcer II
Large anit Em screen reinforcer II

Bear in mind its a sniper fit, your booster is only there to be pulsed to let you get to range where you snipe off the frigates first. Your not any sillier then I am for thinking of it btw, cos I have flown the above. Its sat in my hanger and I will fly it again next time I get a lev 4 combat storyline (until my arm tank skills are high enough I can fit it better)

Best Megathron PVE rail fit is Rokh fitted.

in some ways I wish I picked Caldari but my skills are already to the point of flying the Megathron and all I'm waiting for is training for the 425mm Railgun II however I haven't trained for armor reinforcement yet and I was negligent when training for shields first, but my spastic ways wanted to have the shields so much!

anyway keep the suggestions going, I'm liking the feedback.

56.6km high-tracking guns that bring 716 dps. Nothing to really write home about, but neither is regular Mega.
Trouble is, you probably want to stomach it and get into faction hull. Because 125mbit band with extra space is the way to get both extra sentry dps and something against that one skipped drone.
See a problem here? Rokh ain't got such option. Instead "thou must punch "fire ze missiles!" button untill they all gone" both for faction ships and their marauder.

Maybe he hasn't trained drones? Or doesn't really want to fly a drone boat?

If we're going to just suggest other ships he hasn't asked about, why not suggest Kronos, Machariel, Vindicator, Astarte or Svipul?

Shield fit Mega...

I mean fair enough, the hull doesn't actually have an armor or shield bonus so theoretically it could do either. Your problem is just that you only have 4 mids. For a T1 ship you want 3 mod tank + DCU or rigs so that means you have to choose between a prop mod OR a cap mod and you really, REALLY need a prop mod. Low slots have absolutely garbage capacitor mods that actively interfere with shield tanking so you're going to end up with CCC rigs. That means no Warp speed rigs. Can't fly a BS without them anymore, the urge to kill myself as my BS slowly crawls through a system becomes stronger with every jump.

But if you're happy with the above sacrifices by all means Pirate

Get a Vindi. Still not the best lv4 ship but it beats the stuffing dps wise out of anything else and you can shield fit. Just be prepared to slap on a co-proc or two.

It can work well if you are running anoms but for level 4 missions you really want to armour tank it for the best results. As said Cap is going to be your biggest issue here.

Med pith booster, 2x rat specific hardeners, suitcase, prop mod, 3x mags, 3x TE, 3x CCC rigs and neutrons might work.

Just to further comment, I went from a rokh to the mega and even with a shield tank my dps shot up and quality of life was just all round better. Its really tight on cpu though, so I end up needing a couple of co-pro to fit a shield tank with the guns. Blasters are terrible for pve missioning on a T1 battleship, You can't fit the tank and the cap and the dps to make it work properly. If you want to melee stuff use autocannons and the gorgeous mach.

CCC rigs don't help this boat much at all if trying to run a shield booster, ergo the sniper fit I posted above that is functional. People talk about Vindi fits for missioning, I have a few incursion fits and was given a very nice pvp fit, but no good mission fit for that hull. I'd like to try it out in missions, does anyone have something workable thats nost just a more expensive version of my mega?

Get a Navy Domi. It gets a bonus to large hybrids iirc. The drones will still pump out more dps than the rails. Sentry drones are very good for pve. But it would make use of your hybrid skills. Also the Navy Domi has more mids with which to shield tank, if that is what you wish.

Thought I just logged into Spectre Channel for a second and saw all the Megathron hate, Shield Mega's work fine for PvP and PvE, in PvE I use mine to clear 5/10's and Level 4's when I get stuck out in Serp space, MJD, a Pith Boster, 2 Hardners, RIgs are 2 Targeting Range and one Tracking I think, and Lows are DCII, 3 mags, 3 TE's, and a Sig Amp I think, never had a problem using it, bit slow when you have to slow boat to gates, but meh, I get to sit in the Mega for longer. That being said, a Vindicator is pretty good for Missions when Shield Tanked/DPS Tanked, makes a good Sniper with Wardens and 425mm/350mm's.

All this being said, Navy Domi as a few have surgested might be a bit better if you have decent Drone skills, up to you though, I try and fly Mega's as much as possible, seriosuly, fellow Spectre FC's 'love' it when I bring it to Frigate and Cruiser roams, hehe! If you like it, you fly it, learn it, if you focus on one ship, you can make it do amaizng things and learn tricks with it, other more standard pilots won't even think about, you would be surprised what going against the Meta can do.
