A first-of-its-kind piece of hardware is expensive? Wow, this is an outrage.

Though I don't think this is true, if it would be the case, OR is pretty much dead by tomorrow.

OR pre-orders are doing horrible, the ORs that were meant to be delivered by March, April, May are already sold out within just a few hours, earliest deliveries in June...wait until the more casual gamers and casual IT users hear of this, you will probably see the thing sold out until christmas.

Tbh I'm not sure what people are whining about.

As sexy above mentioned, first generation hardware is always expensive.
Plus the fact there is literally no competition out there yet.

Competition will come, pulling prices down ...
... and porn will make sure everyone wants one in the short to medium term ...
... boosting competing hardware creation.

Mobile phone manufacturers wil jump in and sell their stuff like they do with phones today.

Porn abonnemonts will soar .....

I'm fairly certain that if you run across an offer that requires a Facebook account (as this one may be), and it's something that you really want, the smart thing to do would be to start one and lock it down to the point where it had little if any personal information... much like an email account that you only use for sites where you are likely to get targeted for spam.

I suppose if your need to make a statement by refusing to create a trash Facebook account is that important to you, the sacrifice of things you really would like to have is a small price to pay. Smile

And it actually makes more sense to make a locked down, trash facebook account ...
... and having all cookies and scripts from facebooked blocked ...
... than not making one at all.

I mean, if you really hate it then you should at least attempt to cost them more than they make from you.
Multiply that by a few hundred thousand and they might even notice.

If it requires a facebook account I shall regrettably never own Valkyrie.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

Agree with Pix. If it's only available on VR, and requires third-party logins, I'm out. I'm surprised CCP haven't learned their lesson with PS3 exclusivity for DUST.

Same.

wth is it about EVE spinoffs that makes them always require buying some overpriced piece of tat.

I have a FB acct. I had to make one for a job I was doing about 10 yrs ago. It's completely fake and I have three friends on it.

Here's the thing. It has in no way destroyed my life. I don't know why people have such an irrational fear of things that can be spoofed by a three year old.

If making a dummy FB acct is the only thing stopping you from getting an OR, I pity you.

It doesn't require a Facebook account.

Just because one company owns another, doesn't mean they don't operate independently.

My avocados are sold independently, even though I'm part of a much larger crime Cartel.

Also looks more expensive and even sillier: it boasts 360º full room movement sensors to "get up, walk around and explore your virtual space"... right until you walk into furniture or a wall. Roll

I have a hunch that Microsoft's augmented reality haves better potential; certainly does for professional enviroments, and probably too as an entertainment tool.

Time will tell. The VR 2.0 train is not one I will board anytime soon since my eyes are absolutely incompatible with VR hardware. Also, in a related note, I want to see how do VR headsets interact with presbyopia, that new friend in the life of the age groups who can pocket 600 $ for new toys...

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

I was going to pre order one at 400 Euros. But 742€ ? Nope.

Oculus just made a serious mistake. Good by EvE Valkyrie.

Wow, that one sunk real fast... 742 euros, right after holidays? Who are they aiming for, the 1%? What?

It's not like you need a $600 graphics card to drive this thing...

The fact that things don't magically move aside by themselves isn't a design flaw though.......

All I've seen from MS so far had a really narrow FoV and isn't much fun ...

Given the fact that you can spend way more money for some Flight sim equipment the price for an Oculus Rift is not really expensive.

Not comparable, though, because that's a niche product.

VRsets are more an interface to a new medium.

Hi,
yes i know, i just wanted to make the point that when you do something with passion the price is just secondary.

Otoh, i can't even see them making money with the OR given the development cost, but that's just me.

You said it's a interface to a new medium and tbh i'm quite curious about that.
I'm quite sure that the OR will open a totally new world to gaming within the next few years
