So, even the forums can be dangerous to new players.

I just realized something. I think that even the forums could destroy a new player, but like forever? Vets, CEOs? What do you think?

So, after a 2 year break I came back, I found a good candidate for a corp and went through their recruitment process. You know, the usual: http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20120625

I decide to look around and see how the community has changed. I find out about RvB, have a good laugh at a cool concept and then I find this: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=159869

I have a real good laugh at the tear/troll posts and start to move on. Then, it hits me.

So, say what you might about KillerPriest (the OP) and his outlook on life, er I mean EVE, but let's be honest. When we were new players, coming to EVE, talking about how bad ass we are at WoW/CoD or whatever, some of us thought that way. Hell, most of the OP's issues come from a core misunderstanding of EVE, which is to be expected in a noob. Like his idea that joining RvB is crazy because it makes the game harder due to the wardec. That logic does make sense in a newby kind of way. After that he just let the standard trolls mine wave after wave of tears from him, and in the end came off looking like a whiner. He didn't really do anything terrible, he just got put on tilt and handled it very very poorly.

My point though, is if I had gone and posted something like that in my first week on EVE (2005), my new corp(now in 2016) probably would have rejected my application. Why risk letting in a whiner, and especially a whiner that'll run to the forums to bash the corp they joined. This forum post happened in 2012, that's almost 4 years ago, it'll be around for ever, and be read by any potential CEO/Recruitment officer (at least the decent ones that care about what kind of members they let in.) KillerPriest basically tanked his EVE employment opportunities forever. Best case, hel'll have to explain each whine he did to every new corp he wants to join.

I just thought I'd PSA. If you're a new player and about to post something. Take a moment to read it from the eyes of a corp CEO (that's a guild master in other MMOs.) Am I about to sound whiney? Do I sound entitled? Am I bashing a group of players I don't actually know anything about? (Note: I don't mean things like. "He's a pirate, watch out". I mean things like "He's a pirate who's (insert sexual orientation and parentage)"

If you do, then just don't post, or clean it up a bit. Everything you say here will follow you for the rest of your time on EVE. You may think that's no big deal, but EVE is a social game and a character's reputation can matter far more than his/her skill points. One day you might look back on that post and facepalm about having to explain it every damn time you try to join a corp or a new friend vets you then teases you for being a whiney carebear.

I also can't help but notice how this mirrors the RL employment and social media stuff too.

No ... the logic comes from being a victim, not being a newbie.

We don't need victims who weaken our virtual genepool.

Anyone who ignores quality over quantity has no ground to speak about new players and how we need more of them.

I'd advise against the kind of thinking in the OP.

If you're worried what a future employer (big deal, right?) might think about you, you should probably loosen up a bit, even in real life. But this is a ******* MMO we are talking about. Do whatever the **** you want, light up and puff away.

Also, **** new players. Cry me a river.

I can deduct that if stabbing people would be the only requirement in every corporation, we would have a lot of members in everyone.

But we cant stab.

Is it an argument after addition of stabbing to a game?

No, because we have more than that already.

How many corps actually hold standard newbie "I don't know any better" shitposting against anyone?
Especially if it was years ago.

If they do actually look at the forum history, whether or not you are STILL shitposting is what will make the difference.

I would say; Person you referring to was in moment of heat to let out his frustration. Loss of his ship and pod triggered it. Thats hardly a way to judge person on basis of single post. It would be another story if person posted continuously to point where it clearly shows that person has tendency to overreact.

Like in real life. Person who is perfect in every way, is usually the biggest lier of them all.

Just to clarify to everyone, I can see how the thread title might have seem complainey. I meant it more as a warning. I feel you should be judged for being a whiney ass hat on the forums and it should affect you in game. I'm just pointing out possible consequences and maybe someone will read it and not go crazy on the forum.

Honestly IDK. Maybe I'm too paranoid about how seriously corps vet their applicants.

Still I'm thinking how much it would suck to know my early tears were forever preserved for everyone to read and enjoy because I might have rage posted a long time ago when I started. (And there were tears when I first started btw.)

I mean that forum link was on the first page of google when I searched for RvB EVE.

You get that completely wrong.

First of all is it extremely unlikely anyone will google about the consequences of posting here.
Anyone who would be smart enough to google something like that
wouldn't behave like an idiot in the first place.

Anyone who behaves like an idiot would never even get the idea of googling this ...
... and he certainly wouldn't care about it anyway.

This already covers all possibilities when it comes to this thread.

It's really black and white. When you're an ass, consequences will rain down onto you eventually.

And besides all that... anyone who is afraid of honestly expressing his opinion is not worth it at all.
The worst are the hypocrites who passive aggressively behave like assholes and then complain
when you insult them, because "i never insulted you". Typical USAmerican fighting culture, btw.

Well, all I can say on this is, as a new member to R-FED myself, I've never had more fun getting red on my KB. Even the expensive losses are worth it. In the short time I've been a member, I've also seen a good share of newbros coming in and learning the ropes rather quickly. One guy's barely been doing PVP and while he doesn't win that much, he's become an incredible escape artist. I'm not joking, I've never seen someone that good at pulling range and escaping points when he knows he's losing. He's got it down to an artform, and he's consistent too. Although, he's become predictable and I've told him as much.

People learn faster by doing. Anyway, the forums aren't the problem. The problem is attitude. Good attitude = learn fast, have a blast. Bad attitude = **** and whine, die in doomheim.

I meant KillerPriest's thread is on the first page if you google "RvB EVE" not my thread. The point I'm making is anyone that google searches RvB will see his tears. Hence consequences.

I also google the character names fairly often for intel. IE if someone wardecs my corp etc. So I'm just saying, since EVE has social engineering as a fairly major gameplay component. Anything you post on these forums may impact you in game. In a lot of possible ways.
