My apologies for not knowing about this thread.

This seems like a switch is missing at the portrait server.. not that the technology isn't there. I wonder what is the reason for not rendering physically simulated hair (or just honoring the switch in the game client).

I wish to gaze upon my hairy chums in all their splendour, so please, CCP, make this happen.

However, I do prefer the sheen of a freshy shorn scalp, so if this change isn't implemented I would encourage all of you to shave your heads in protest.

Okay, Vin Diesel. Btw, the Riddick set is over there. (Points to the door). Don't forget to bring that one wicked looking knife of your so you can keep that bald head of yours smoother than a baby's rump, you strange, hyper light sensitive, weirdo!

I agree with this.

Using the braids it's possible to hide the straps of tops allowing for different poses to appear naked,
even compared to the catsuit, which is great too, but ... well, different.

Pffffff ...

Though I understand why this is unlikely to be happening. The physics are running locally.
Having them server-side as well would increase the amount of time it would take the servers to render the pictures.

I think the real reason for not applying physics simulation on portraits is to ensure a uniform look. With the "pre-rendered" states you at least know what you get whereas the portrait server might get a crazy hiccup while rendering physics and you end up with a braided beard and moustache and hairstrands poking through your eyes. I don't think the server strain regarding the simulation would be a problem anymore, certainly would have been during incarna release when everyone was redoing their characters. But that was years ago...

But seriously though whats up with the pre-determined colors, this would be, one would think, the simplest ways of adding extraordinary amount of flavor to the character creator - to have freely pickable colour roulette for hair, eye, makeup colours. Why can't I have neon green hair? Or navy blue? Or whatever. And it would be awesome if we could choose several scars instead of just one. Or several different piercing instead of preset ones. When it was released I thought the character creation revolutionary in sculpting options but today it seems very restricted and limited for no apparent reason. Like in Fallout 4 I could choose several scars if I so wanted, not just one going across my face but one through my lips and one more on my cheek.

That makes no sense whatsoever ...
And I sincerely doubt they run the hair simulation on the CPU.

We'd notice that locally.

I would add on top of that. Let us "pose" our characters and lock poses so that when one uses "View Full Body" feature he or she will see that character posing. I already can imagine some creative people going ham on those! Lol

How does it not make sense? It ensures a certain look. I'm not privy to the details but the portrait service does render the picture somehow separately, that's why it takes so long to change your portrait, and I remember it having rendering problems previously - mainly by missing stuff like hair, clothes or eh, entire face.

dang, it doesn't show up here, but does in game. I was going to ask for a slow motion transition between saved poses so that you can get a better hair fling effect. it takes some doing, but if you have one extreme pose, and transition to another final pose, you can fling longer hair for a slightly more windblown look.

I'd really like pose-able hair as well, because a full blown little mermaid fling would be my thing, or ass-length hair in a swimming pool look, cause dammit, we're in space and null grav is sexy. Just cause internet spaceships are serious business doesn't mean we want to look all business.

More haircolors and styles, and take the damn character portrait creator out of the game for just the pictures. have cookie cutter stuff for WICQ( walking in captains quarters) but for pictures it should be incredibly customizable.

I would add more stuff but it would make it seem like i'm not serious, and I am. Also the limited selection of makeup styles and colors is kind of disapointing.

That's because ingame you're viewing it in the character creator with physically simulated hair.

When you initially save that look it will appear in your portrait for a brief time, at least until the server renders it, then you will see a version without physically simulated hair ingame and here on the forums, like you do right now.

As with the original UI,I really liked the RGB sliders. It really allowed players to create a look that they felt comfortable looking at all the time. Though we do have some good UI and character presets, being able to choose your own colours would be great.

+1 to the original post. And seeing as we are loosing the captain quarters with the new citadels, character portraits will be the only way of engaging and connecting with the characters we control.

I know there are die-hard vets that couldn't careless about the character portraits or cq, but they are not the only ones that play the game. I always thought it would be cool to have animated portraits that follow the animations in the cq/creator. Or, I can just picture my portrait snarling when someone starts to shoot at me, and laughing when they go pop :D

Thanks for your support!

Though don't worry, we're not losing stations only POS towers.

So we'll still be able to kick back in our CQ like always when visiting a system with a station in it.

Maybe one day the door might even get opened.
