Well, they are two games that obviously owe at least some of their creation to fundamental influences, even if not to each other. They may not have directly influence one another, but certainly they are built with ideas other games have attempted. They're both space games, dealing in spaceship-based warfare and exploration, so it is reasonable to assume they at least share some previous titles as being fundamental influences. I'd be very surprised if none of the devs have ever played games like Elite or Traveller, just as I would be surprised if none of the fellas that worked on Earth and Beyond ever played the same games.

E & B died and was reborn through an emulator. Not sure who is running it or how good it is. I too was E & B before migrating to EVE. They are kinda the same but EVE is so much more. <--- 10 year vet January 14th and loving every minute.

E&B and Eve are very different games. I actually prefered E&B, loved that the there were Aliens, walking in stations, evolving content with player solved puzzles, great holiday events. But Eve is way deeper and has a real economy. Eve is far more "social" as well, a darker shoot you in the face sort of social, but different.

The E&B emulator is not bad, not that active and it was sad they gave up trying to match E&B when it shut down. Still for free, not bad. Worth checking out.

ENB is still running and is close to be at point where it died.
We even placed the last 3 missing classes in that EA did not do.

Who is running it?
Some group of people from all around the world contributing to make this game awesome again and bringing it to next level.

I am in luck to be one of the developers.

Go look on google for enb emulator / Net 7

Sounds like Starsiege of old. Back in 99 we played that on our dialup, doing ladder matches, wars and whatnot. Then it got discontinued because Dynamix decided that Tribes was more worthy than Starsiege so a whole bunch of players banded together and tried to make a new Starsiege game, they even bought the rights for it.

Holy Crap, another Starsiege player. Didn't think it was possible lol. I still have fond memories of that game, piloting my Adjudicator (aka THE JUDGE) blink gunning everyone to madness Twisted

Didn't people say the same thing about Elite (the new one, I mean)?

Also, last time I checked E'n'B was a dead stick. Did it get necro'd or something?

Again, Holy Crap. I remember UF, hell I remember YOU in that giant leg shooting PBW potato bug lol. I was {RAGE} Dark Sun and I almost always had a Judge with ELFs or Blink Guns or an apoc with EMCs. I wasn't very good or particularly well known, but I was there lol. Me and some other guys used to Goof around as the "Holy Order of Starsiege" on various forums.

E&B was great. I had so much fun playing a trader. Then I started playing Eve and made..a trader.

Playing a trader in EVE is a lot better. No comparison.

IIRC, when E&B shut down, EvE offered a free month trial to E&B players.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

There is Earth and Beyond emulator out there, and servers are running.

EA killed it, but people resurected.
Pray that EA will not aquire CCP. EA would kil one game and make another one and sell it as "better", meanwhile closing the old one servers. And If they will do that to EVE, pray for someone with enough skills to do an emulator for EVE.

E&B was my first spaceship game too.

Since it folded I've noticed concepts from it popping up in EVE. The Drifters for example bear a resemblance to E&B's aliens the Vrix, who also first appeared in small scout ships and then became progressively more hostile.

I have the emulator, nice to know it's still active.

Before Earth and Beyond was... Jumpgate! Man, that was so cool. At least, the 0 G physics and manually trying to control your ball of mass ship moving in a straight line almost to infinity. No brakes either, you had to joystick rotate your ship and apply thrusters to slow down or change direction. What a trippy, real-space -like game. Too bad the art design and some other things were crap. Anybody else play Jumpgate?

Meanwhile in the distance, ominous thunder was rolling.... "I've heard good things about EVE Online. Still in beta, but supposed to be good."
