A few ideas I had for discussion

Skills
I have always thought the progression of skills in the game to be rather lazy, just sitting and waiting to be able to use better ships, ammo, drones etc.
Could we have missions that are designed to help skill progression rather than buying and queuing them. For example, hauling skills; complete a series of missions, each with increasing risk to help add skill points to these skills required. Haul larger loads into more dangerous space etc. Ship movement, for example acceleration control, could be a series of flight paths to complete in certain times, adding more skill points to these. Just some initial thoughts to get started.

First-person view
Flying my ship around is very nice and it now glimmers in 4k with pretty light effects; can I actually sit in the cockpit of my ship with all the same level of control and fly around. Third-person view is very nice, but what about an first-person view option? Would require a lot of design work on cockpits. I know Valkyrie is coming soon, but without the VR?

Planet bases
Yes, this is a space-faring game I agree, but there aren't always stations in every system and we could have the option of building a land-based system for storage, ship repairs etc; could be vunerable to attack from space (looting)? Just a thought which I am sure not everyone will like.

Would welcome discussion/thoughts, positive and negative as always.

First person mode wouldn't really work. You aren't in a cockpit, you are plugged in to your pod.

Firstly skills. No because then you change it from a time based system to a grind based system like ALL the other MMOs out there. The only way I would allow this is if CCP introduced a "ground flight school" system for newbies that gave them the respective skills by using them that they ALREADY get from the NPE as of right now just with a better tutorial system and flight training school to go with those skills. An entirely OPT-IN system that no way grants any benefit to grinding something for actual advancement.

Secondly First player POV. Lore. Lore says you are in an egg within the bowels of your ship. I know what youd LIKE and what and how the game is designed to be. So no just no.

Third Planet based warfare. Its called Dust 514 and its there. Yes integration and WiS is lacking from CCPs portfolio but that is a decision they made a long time ago. A mistake imo but one theyve stuck by.

What I would love them to do is a new tutorial based around planets and WiS that carries a capsuleer from their home planet, growing up, learning the lore and background and history of Eve and WiS around on planets to a recruiting school for their respective race and bloodline that turns into a station based "flight school" where they learn the respective ship skills like you have suggested by earning proficiency in tasks that require it in a "virtual world" along with other newbies and classmates. High marks in certain areas award stature and class folks. Blink But do no more than bragging rights. They are then, upon graduation, given their noob ship and sit in the undock ready to embark into the wide world of Eve. This entire process should take, if wanted to, the entire 14 day trial. This would give the best of all worlds. A reason for WiS and a taste of it that doesnt detract from the ship based game and train noobs in the fine art of Eve while giving them the background that older players or someone growing up in the Eve world would have attained from proxy. We know as children how to drive to some degree because weve watched, learned and come to understand it just by being in that world. In game noobs arent given that. In the beginning of Eve we didnt need that as we all were learning in that sense, but now itd be a great way to evolve those that want that or know that from other MMOs to better integrate into the Eve world imo.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

YES!!!! Provided that failing the mission removes skill points from your "progression." Should encourage PVP'ing the mission runners a lot more than now, to get them to fail.

Our ships don't have cockpits; you're encased in a pod of goo and only seeing things because cameras are ejected from your ship and follow it around. But sure, why not. I'd like CCP to design a cockpit / first person view, and then just to drive the point home, make it take like 5 seconds to switch between cockpit and 3rd person, so that you realize that your guns mostly shoot sideways / backwards (because they are turrets), and the forward cockpit view is pointless.

Look at the Planetary Industry (PI) system, and you'll see the extent of what CCP is capable, as far as "land-based buildings." I mean, we play with icons, we don't actually see the buildings themselves, the workers, or anything like that. Also look at the 1-room captains quarters, for the same.

If you want "vulnerable to attack" just build a POS, or deploy one of those mobile depots or whatever. Much easier than planet-based.

From when I last checked, the new camera controls (beta) on the test server feature a 1st person POV, although it's probably not what you're imagining; think of a racing game, only instead of the camera being from the driver's POV (cockpit cam) it's located on the bumper, so nothing of your vehicle can be seen. It simulates a HUD of sorts but most of it is just screen fluff, the only exception being the "cross-hairs" in the middle of the screen which might aid people with bombing runs.

The glaring problem in my opinion is the lack of control/manual piloting in that viewpoint. Clicking to change direction is limited in the extreme, and as you can't swivel the camera around, it makes pulling manoeuvres like a rapid 180 nigh on impossible. If this was a game developed from the ground up with keyboard/joystick control as a means of manual piloting, then a 1st person POV could work. As it is, it's a game which had the option of keyboard control tacked on, and so far I've yet to meet anyone who uses that when partaking in "serious business".

Although, if you want your ideas to be considered by the CCP Devs, I'd recommend posting in the Features and Ideas Discussion sub-forum. That way the General Discussion forum trolls like me don't get a first pass at your post, and everyone has to follow the rules of the FID forum, which mandate that we discuss and not flame.

I just thought that I would point out that I live in a nice suburban area with no farms nearby, and yet every night, and every day, all night and day, I can hear a goat bleating somewhere in the neighbourhood. Somewhere particularly close.

This late night musing was brought to you by the letter 2, and the number Y. I'm going back to the moon to retrieve my missing socket wrench now. Thank you for your cooperation.

Skills: promotes grinding and enables bots. No thanks. The current system is fair to everyone whether you're human or bot, whether you work 70 hours a week or are a benefits cheat.

Camera: you should check out the New camera modes. They are in beta.

Planet bases: if they do everything stations do then whats the point? If you really want a station in a certain system you can put a POS there or soon-ish, a citadel.

EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided"

How about you take the time that everyone else had to take too and play need for speed in the meantime.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!
