Where are the roleplayers?

So here is something that's always struck me as a little odd. EVE is such a large and diverse universe with players being able to do just about anything they want to. So how is it I've never come across roleplay? It's not like there isn't lore for the game that's been established. In fact the beautiful thing about it is that it's open-ended enough for player influence.

Am I just not looking hard enough? Is it some small niche group hidden in some backwater corner of New Eden? I'd really like to know. I can help but feel that roleplay would add so much more to the EVE experience.

You need to look outside high sec. Most roleplayers are in low sec and 0.0. Also they are usually not hardcore roleplayers. THeir entities act in a roleplayer way ( defend a cause, declare wars agaisnt groups that defend the opposing causes, but not speak in character stuff)

Playing at being a pirate/mercenary/spacedictator is a bit redundant in a game where you can actually just be a pirate/mercenary/spacedictator.

Granted. But typically you feel more like the player doing that rather than the character. Unless you're making your actions similar to those of your character. But then you're still missing the interaction between the characters. That's more the element I'm looking for.

No.

It's "Intergalactic Summit" and "Out of Character".
"The Summit" is player run and filled with mostly half wits.

Btw... you should remove that shirt of yours, hun. ;)

To some extent, everyone who plays this game is a role player. If you have ever said "I am at the stargate", you are a role player. Why? Because you were not at a stargate, you were sitting in a chair in front of a computer playing a game.

But as you said, and even thought "I am at the stargate", you naturally fell into role playing.

Funny enough, EVE is one of those games that makes you talk like a roleplayer just through playing the game.

Roleplay here is a bit more action, and a bit less talking in ye olde English (ye olde English doesn't even fit the futuristic sci-fi setting anyway). People don't have time to write a novel in the chat channels during PVP, and otherwise in voice-chat, when you hear "X is primary, gate is red, warp to me, keep the gate cloak" and other such calls, that IS roleplay.

If you read some of the recent chronicles that CCP wrote, we are capsuleers, and the chaos we cause in-game, as well as posting on the "galnet" = forums, is acknowledged as in-character.

Otherwise, as it's been stated, there is a community and there are channels to join to get into it even more.

You're disgusting, you furry.

Oh, btw, did you know people in new eden have specialised clonevats for futanari?
It's not even a gallente-only thing........ though I think they started it.

Roleplay exists, but loosely. A lot of RP'ers are not super serious about it. Like if someone in fleet says "crap, the baby is crying - BRB" you don't get a bunch of nerds saying "Baby? In space? What the devil is going on? Are you on boosters?".

The Intergalactic Summit is still the place to go for topics and discussion inline with the story.

Eve is very "meta-gamed" so it's not like there is rock-solid immersion being broken. The internet is referred to as "galnet" and links for RP oriented websites are provides, but again, when it's a forum or wordpress page, you don't get fake confusion over the 20th century terran advertisements plastered all over it.
(Though that would be rather funny: "Your galnet site has an advertisement for a booster I never heard of that claims something about bedroom performance...")

Now you see, I always RP a crush with Diana Kim because it's simply funny. I'm careful not to take it too far though, I'm creepy enough in RL. A hard-headed androgynous 5th Dragonaur zealot being hit on by an Intaki provides an avenue for lols.

Little things like that.

Does wearing women's undergarments while playing Eve count as role play? Or is that just a sign you a really sick puppy?

Civil discourse is uniquely human. After all, when is the last time a pride of lions and a herd of water buffalo negotiated SOV over a watering hole? Never. Someone either gets their ass kicked or eaten. At the end of the day someone holds SOV.
