Those are very funny, and I hated apple products, still do a bit, but someone gave me a free ipad 3g for xmas, and must confess, for a gift it was awesome.

I can finally read all my PIRATED PDF's and EBooks in something with a lot of space (over 100gigs of stuff and counting including ebooks)

Reading color PDF scanned manuals, comic books, rpg supplements, text works and even some nifty psychology texts in an ipad is bliss. Honestly, I barely if at all use the ipad for something else than a big e-book/pdf reader and battery use is quite decent, I usually have to recharge my Ipad every 3 to 5 days depending on how much I read. If I could change skills/upgrade/create markets orders from the web client I wouldnt even need to turn my puter some days. Big smile

Currently reading the out of print impossible to get Liber Chaotica .

Can't really do that on a Kindle :/ at least in color and Kindle Fire is just too small.

I would still love a kindle tho, the smallest one, to take with me every time I go into the streets, I still find the Ipad 2 a bit big for my tastes in regards to portability, and sometimes all I wanna do is read a good novel when I have to sit in front of a classroom for hours staring at the ceiling between giving classes and grading paper tests, no way In hell Im going out into the streets with that big "PLEASE ROB ME" sign an Ipad is.

I cant believe the amount to people sucked into buying a Kindle.

Its a travesty.

Can you explain why, please? I've been looking into options for offline reading, etc. and the Kindle seems like a very viable choice. Considering the volume of books I purchase the savings in using such a device would be logical and the Kindle seems like a very useful, purpose built device.

As I implied earlier, he's probably an Apple fanboy. They're usually the most vocal Kindle-haters.

I greatly enjoy my Kindle. I have the Kindle Keyboard, which after a quick check on Amazon, I don't think they make anymore. Closest in appearance is the Keyboard 3g, but then you're paying a bunch of money for 3g. Closest in function is the basic Kindle. It's very small and light, and the new one is even smaller. I got a nice "case" that hooks into the side of the Kindle and acts like book binding. It has a built-in light that draws power directly from the Kindle. The Kindle itself has an amazing battery life; I've only ever drawn the battery low enough for it to warn me once, and that was because I had the light on for like 8 hours. I personally don't like touch-screen technology, so I avoided the Kindle Touch, and I've heard bad things about the Kindle Fire, which is more of a tablet than an e-reader anyway.

I prefer to buy books on Kindle these days, as it's A: Cheaper and B: Hella more convenient. There aren't very many bookstores around here, so if Barnes&Noble didn't have it, I'd be stuck scouring Walmart. Also, many books can be pre-ordered, and automatically delivered via wifi. I pre-ordered several novels this december: One came out jan 1st, I bought Templar One when I saw the Facebook post about it, the next book will come out on jan 31st, and then I think the next is in march.

So if you're simply looking for a device that lets you more easily build up/enjoy a library, I suggest a basic Kindle, or maybe even a Kindle Touch, if you like touchscreen devices. I'd only recommend the 3G if you do a LOT of traveling in areas where internet access is sketchy (Keep in mind, public wifi is pretty common in cities and the Kindle only needs wifi access to download new books). If you're looking for more than that, get a tablet or something and install the Kindle app. Most have one. They won't have the liquid-paper display, though, which I really like.

Thank you Bane. You've said pretty much what the majority of people I asked about this have said, so you're giving me a bit of comfort in the decision. I was eyeing the Fire, but a dedicated Win 7 tablet would be a better total solution so I've been leaning towards the Kindle Touch.

Again, thank you.

This book wasn't available in the Australian kindle store so I changed my country to the USA in the account settings and was able to get it that way.

The thing about that "expensive 3g" is that its a lifetime deal (outside the USA). Vodafone provide pretty much worldwide access (apart from the USA) and if they ever stop then you have a good case for a credit-card chargeback for the entire cost of the Kindle.

I used the 3g quite happily in the Canaries in October for web-browsing and having a newspaper delivered each day (free trial, not subbing to the Grauniad, not that senile yet Big smile ). The Vodafone data throughput was miles better than the poxy Movistar connection my phone had, and the screen was quite acceptable for most sites.

So I probably saved the difference between the 3g and the non-3g in a single holiday.

Oh and in my experience its rare to find USEABLE open wi-fi connections as they're mainly saturated - hotels are prone to this as unless you're in a big city then the wifi is basically a single (or multiple aggregated if you're lucky) dsl/cable connection. If that is made open then it grinds to a halt PDQ.

Anyway, way way off-topic.

I'd put money on this guy owning an Apple product.

Also, been reading Templar One on my kindle since the day it launched. Maybe you live in the wrong region.

Hm... I got iPad 2 with Kindle app and downloaded loads of books on it.

Read through almost all the Game of Thrones books (currently halfway through book 5).

Just brilliant when travelling to kill time at airports or on trains.

Thanks to this thread I know which book to start on next :)

Irrelevant to thread post follows:

Just +1'n the kindle.

What would whoever disliked the kindle recommend instead? My gf has a kindle and I like it, but to be honest I've not tried the competition.

I plan on living forever.......so far, so good.

welp, publishing does not really work like that.
CCP owns the ip, but I'm pretty sure the author owns the work and it would be between Tony and his publisher to expand the delivery methods for his book.
Pretty sure this would also involve royalties to the ebook maker, but not sure, I deal with actual print publishing and not ebooks, but I think its more than just making a compatible version and uploading it to AZ

as far as copyright issues in the UK, they always seemed to be more pro-creator than that, but it does seem like a plausible reason considering the copyright frenzy going on in the US right now

Like for you.

People do not understand how economics work nowadays.

this is increasingly apparent in politics as well. Lol

Oh yeah, re-hire Tony.

Was about to post this. Did this day one, grabbed it in Australia.

For me this isn't working. I live in Belgium. Any thoughts on how to solve this?

I've used the trick ppl suggested and switched location to a US based address, then bought the kindle edition.

Worked fine.

But got a weird E-Mail from amazon customer support about the kindle edition not being available everywhere and they want me to provide some kind of id to prove i'm living in US via fax.

Anyone else got such a Mail?
I mean with this crap DRM **** they could just remote wipe the book again. Ugh
