If you need to ask, you shouldn't get a dread

Do you want something that shoots a car?(seriously nag shells are 8-11ish feet wide)
Also it happens to be made out of fingernails and toenails of the dead... (also seriously..) Though this somehow works for a minmatar hull.

Or..

A phoenix. Which is actually pretty damn fun now.

If something is vertical, you should fly it.

If you live in a Black Hole the answer is always Pheonix, For everything Else there is Naglfar.

Doesn't matter. You'd shield-tank them both anyways

Indeed but the pheonix still works pretty well in pulsars (C5+ ofc) Blink

Phoenix is a beast, but it totally depends oon what you want to do. I do however, see very little situations where I would choose a nag over a phoenix..

I would still go a Nag over Phoenix in a pulsar.

But at the end of the day Dreads are always a personal preference. Pick what you like most and to hell with everyone else, even if you fly the Crappy Amarr one people will still take the dread over no dread at the end of the day.

PS
The Correct answer is still Naglfar.

Tricky ....
first of all, the nag has better cap, it's in fact less vulnerable vs neuting than a pheonix, also it's vertical :)
Pheonix tanks a lot more "paperdps" than a nag, in fact the difference is incredible, if you both blingfit them a pheonix with equal fit tanks 1 more dread in dps, however a pheonix tanks with average dps fit (no cap power relays in low slots) for max 4:30 mins (capped out), while a nag tanks for 5:05 mins.
Now lets take a look at damage projection, application and mitigation

Mitigation pheonix wins, you apply full dps @ 90k, other dreads aint hitting for their full dps at that range anymore (falloff/lower damage ammo), this will in fact give you an advantage for fighting other dreads outnumbered

Application is tricky, manually orbit a nag at >500m and even with 10 vindis webbing you and 10 rapiers TPing you, it can't hit you at all, a killbox (triangle of death) is a solution for that issue, however all you need to apply 9k dps in the same situation as pheonix is 1 rapier assisting you (3tp +offgridlinks + 2 webs), this changes if the nag is not beeing orbited, it will hit for ~15k dps once you get tracked, so in a group of dreads with distance to each other the nag wins over the pheonix, if you're a ball of dread due to tracking issues the pheonix wins, also pheonix has the highest alpha and can 1 shot even dualplated bhaalgorns with t2 trimarks.

Projection is where the pheonix wins by far, i know torpfits with 12k dps @ 90-110k range, a nag can't apply its full dps at that range anymore with autocannons, however in shortrange vs other dreads, it does more dps until you're at ~ 60k

Both are viable, both outperform Moros and Rev in WHs, it's up to you, personally i'd train and buy both and pick the one which fits best for that given situation.

I can fly both and have done so for years. I can say this. A stationary Nag can miss a stationary object, a phoenix cant.

With that said, the other thing I have always looked at was, what am I doing? If I'm sitting with some friends/corp/alliance shooting towers or stations, then I actually go for the Revelation ( all about not having to reload / get ammo restocked).
