Immersion update on Gate Jumps

Two small things which I think would impact the immersion big time.

First: The customs officer battleships should orbit the gates at longer distances... It's very embarrassing to see them stuck in the gate and bumping of it...

Second: Change the way we are warping to gates. Instead of getting to the "0km" sphere, go to a point in space which is at 0km on the point where the jump animation is initiated... this way rotating the cam to get it into position would be more like you doing it alone, not so abrupt and you'll actually see your ship jump.
This one might actually not be really "small" to implement as it might cause problems if you warp to non-zero distance. Maybe lets just use it when warping to zero and leave it unchanged when not???

So you're basicly asking for ccp to make it like it was before the animation was introduced...

Ehm... No? I very much want to keep the animation. What I suggest is that when warping to zero your ship lands at a point in front of the gate from where the jump animation begins. This way when when the camera rotates to position to start the animation it actually pivots around your ship and looks more "natural" and you can see your ship jump.

This makes it dramatically easier to predict where a pilot will land on the gate even if they bounce off a celestial or bookmark perch, so pipe bombing becomes pretty much no skill, since warp to zero always lands them in your smart bomb AOE, no matter which direction they are coming from.
So please no.

Pretty sure I recall someone suggesting the very same thing a few years back for landing at the front of a station before and it was rejected on account of CCP not being able to get ships to land at an angle that's off center with something like stations, BMs, and so forth. Dictating ranges, but still aligned to is likely the very closest to that we can get, and we already have that anyways.

Gate guards molesting the gates like a blind person bumbling his/her way through an unfamiliar and crowded establishment, on the other hand, is something of a strange oddity when you see it, so I'd agree with that proposal. It is rather humorous at first, then as you said, kind of sad to watch. Can't help but think, "Smarter, not harder, guys. There is a gate there; maybe go around it?"

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

How about just an option to automatically slow boat your ship to the warp location, or a station docking port But make the warp point right behind (or for Gallente gates some place inside) the gate, even though the camera could still be in the same location for the warp animation.

This could be quite risky to be sure, however for immersion purposes I can see some players choosing to use it.

this would case issues for bubbles as you alignment would be differant its more than just a cosmetic change

Hmhm.. I'm not really a null sec person. And I can see i missed few implications where changing the warp-in point might not be the best idea... I do not think the bubbles would be an issue. For that people will just adapt their placement. But the other point raised with more predictable landing for smart-bombing is somewhat killing it...

To not drop the idea completely... What about making the warp-in not a point in front of the gate but a sphere (radius pending) ... That way you at least land on the correct side of the gate??? Would that be better?
