So lately ive been taking my astero into quite a bit more combat than expected. I mainly use it for exploration, but have been enjoying the fights in it.

Currently I fit it like this

High Slots

CovOps cloak
Probe launcher(Wish i could fit expanded)

Mid Slots

Disruptor
Scram T2
MWD
Cargo scanner(This needs to go, but im not sure what to replace it with. Only there because of relic sites i ran with the site.

Low Slots

Enam t2
Drone Damage amp t2
Damage Control t2
Small ancil armor rep

My rigs i havn't changed since i got it months ago, but they need to go.

Small Gravity cap upgrade
Cap control Circuit II

I've looked at the Astero and i'm tempted to try a dual-prop, scram/web fit. also drop the EANM and pop another DDA II in there.

Rigs would be ancil current router and probably 2x Bulkhead rigs.

I have always loved how tanky the Astero can be.

[Astero, Close-range Brawling]

Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Corpii A-Type Small Armor Repairer

Small Electrochemical Capacitor Booster I, Navy Cap Booster 400
1MN Monopropellant Enduring Afterburner
Warp Scrambler II
Stasis Webifier II

Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Small Unstable Power Fluctuator I

Small Nanobot Accelerator I
Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Small Auxiliary Nano Pump II

Hobgoblin II x5

NOTES: with a 3% active tank implant this little sucker can tank multiple frigates or a destroyer with ease. More if you decide to pimp the Energized Membranes a bit.

Small Auxiliary Nano Pump II

Hobgoblin II x5

NOTES: pretty much a modification of the brawler fit that gives up all pretense of "covert." The web is there for defensive reasons.

Please note that with both fits, the damage is a little anemic (~100 dps with high skills). You can bump it up by trading an EANM for a Drone Damage Amp.
The deadspace repairer is a must in my opinion as it gives the ship far more staying power.

edit: basically... imagine an Astero as a faster, cloaky-capable, done version of the Vengeance.

All above are really great fits. I've recently been having fun with the following similar version -

Corpii C-Type Small Armor Repairer
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer + 56 Nanite Paste (always overheat)
Armor Thermic Hardener II (swap hardener depending on victims attack profile).
Armor Kinetic Hardner II (swap hardener depending on victims attack profile)

Shadow Serpentis Warp Scram (because 3 point scrams rock)
Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor (or second basic scram if hunting stabbed farmers/explorers)
1 MN Afterburner (don't need a MWD as you are sneaking up to them).
Small Capacitor booster, Navy Cap Boost 400

Covert Ops Cloaking Device
125 mm Rail Gun (for orbiting outside blaster range), or blaster/nos/neut as per Mysa and Shahfluffers - depends on target.

Small Aux Nano Pump II
Small Aux Nano Pump II
Small Anti-Explosive Pump

2 sets attack drones, based on target's weaknesses.
1 set Hornet EC-300 (for those GTFO moments: Label this drone group '!!!EXCAPE!!!' or something similar: It will help).

EG-603 implant for power grid
RP-903 implant for repair amount

Standard Exile booster (reserve for those big fight or GTFO moments; keep your inventory widow open in space for access)

The above set up tanks 340 dps Thermic and Kinetic (with the 3% implant), or 558 dps when overheated! Pop the Exile and you add 20% to these numbers. This means you don't need to run your 8-cycle Ancillary very often. As mentioned damage is anaemic - around 100 dps: I like this as you get to sit back an enjoy the spectacle of a long slow death from the comfort of your invulnerable little white ship. There is even time to strike up a conversion with your victim on chat if you wish.

Swap the hardeners for a EANM and DC if you are not sure what you will be engaging: they give 230 to 300 dps tank across the 4 damage types (300-370 dps when heated).

Sneak up cloaked to a farmer in a large FW complex or explorer at a data/relic site. Approach. Decloak 3 km out. Turn on AB, Scram and Web. Release the drones. Hit 'Target' button after 6 seconds (cloak deactivation timer at ~1:30 o'clock position). Ram their ship. Engage drones when locked. Orbit at your turrets preferred distance. Destroy. Wallow in the glorious tears of the vanquished. Repeat.

Most are so surprised by someone decloaking on top of them they don't get a shot off or move before its all over. Just don't expect anyone to call 'GF' afterwards.

Being cloaky means you can not only select your fights, but you also get a good look at your target, so make sure you adjust your defences accordingly.

Cheers.

I always think of it as an expensive **** Tristan with a cloak.
It's either going to do dps or tank and I'm never happy with it.
They do make fantastic throw-away-alt scouting hulls though I.e. you can be warping cloaked In about a week's worth of training , probing damn well with a month's worth of training so for 1 plex you can turn an empty slot on your account into a scanning scout using the astero .
