Singularity crashing my internet(?)

5 times now my internet has died on me while using the test server, figured it's time to create a thread so that someone might be able to help me here or verify they got the same. Really would not want this issue to go to TQ as that would probably end in disaster quite a few times for me.

I use the Beta Launcher, I run 3 clients. W7 x64 Ultimate.

The problem only occurs while playing on the test server(so far at any rate), playing the entire day on TQ is no issue nor is any other internet-connected activity.
But while playing on Singularity every once in a while(Wish I could be more specific, but I can't) my ships stop responding (Everything becomes an outstanding call), then my steam reports that it has no connection quickly followed by my browser stopping to load videos/new pages.
Chrome tells me there is a DNS problem, as does Windows Troubleshoot as well as Windows Event Logs saying it didn't get a response from the DNS servers, but the problem is only on my PC. Every other device in the house keeps working properly which is different from my past experience with DNS problems. Which got fixed when I got new DNS settings from my ISP which have been working perfectly so far.

The quickest 'fix' I've been able to find so far is restarting my PC(~15 seconds time total) but I'll be trying some more things next time it happens.

For all I know the problem may be on my side, on the Test Server's side, or on the Beta Launcher's side, but I have no idea so if anyone can help, it would be appreciated.
If you need any more info just ask!

6th and 7th time occurred today.
Once when I tried to connect to Singularity for a split second(Though I was also connected to Solace at the time) and the other while playing on Solace.(Or well, waiting, wasn't performing any actions, noticed my connection died when the stream twitch.tv/isdstar died and no longer heard doomsday being fired at station).

Did some more testing at least:
- Restarting the router has 0 impact, disabling and enabling my network adapter also has no impact on getting my internet back.
- My NAS and my router(Local network) are no longer approachable from my PC while the problem exists.
- Pinging 8.8.8.8 or my DNS adresses results in responses of <18ms, pinging my NAS results in <1ms response, 0 loss. Pinging www.google.nl results in "Ping-request is unable to find host www.google.nl, check the name and try again", pinging it currently results in a response of <23ms.
- Beta Launcher Network Diagnostics fails on every check because it fails on trying to ping a URL.
- According to Network Center I am still sending and receiving packets, Networx reported a usage of <1kb upload/download. Windows Taskmanager Network tab flatlined.

The fact that this happened on Solace which is running a TQ build really makes me think the Beta Launcher might be the culprit somehow, I've played TQ and Sisi with 0 trouble for the past 3 years, but since I installed the Beta Launcher I've been running into this issue. And since it happened on Solace as well as Singularity, I assume it will also happen on TQ.

Edit: After 5 minutes of losing my connection, I still was not forced out of EVE by a disconnection screen. The client's network options for example reported Picture
It was 1 of 3 clients, really should have checked the 2 other clients as well if they were the exact same or not. What?

what you describe is exactly what would happen if you were using a vpn client and an secured enforcement of network policy
the kind you would use professionally in company with some IT security officer knowing his job at least, it has the purpose of preventing any traffic outside the tunnel once the vpn tunnel is opened
and with some client program, it can also enforce additionnal stuff like setting up a proxy

losing internet name resolution
losing local network access...

so first question, do you have a VPN client, for work or for gaming (since it is a thing now)

next, open a command line, keep it ready and when the thing happens, type "ipconfig /all" without the quotes and hit enter
paste the content in a text file, save it, reboot/fix your issue, then post the result here

and yes, not being able to "find an address" means your internet is down,

Thanks for the response Smile

I do have Hamachi, but nothing similar beyond that. But that has been running for a year in the background without a problem. Deleted it from starting when windows starts now just in case.
Everyone else in the house uses pretty much mobile phones exclusively, and have not reported any problems with their connection.

I actually made a screenshot that included the ipconfig /all while it was down earlier/yesterday ^.^

Launcher Diagnostics as well: (The warnings given are sadly in Dutch)

hey! that hamachi thing is ... wtf?!

your ipconfig show me 2 network interface, both with a "Default Route" (damn NL :) ) which is not supported

could you go ahead and make a "route print" command and post it?

I would try something, but i don't know hamachi so this is pure guesswork:
- stop any hamachi app/systray icon/service
- right clic on the network icon near windows clock and open network sharing center
- on the left panel there should be a link to the network interface setting (2nd link)
- in the the windows you should see 2 nic (corresponding to your ipconfig result)
- right clic on the hamachi and "disable" it

if you make an ipconfig /all there should be only 1 nic, and if you do route print again, the route list must be shorter

try again to play

the fact that no one is reporting issues with their mobile is simply because it's only nothing on their device interfering with network config, you on the other hand have something

EDIT, i just googled hamachi : it's the VPN for LogMeIn, didn't know they called that hamachi... so yes, as I read what I can see on problem and hamachi, this is your root cause
https://www.google.com/search?q=hamachi+unable+to+resolve+dns
I really can't think of a reason to use Hamachi (except from work to bypass proxy and play instead of working ;p ) on a daily basis but that's my opinion.
if you don't want to uninstall it, as I looked in google there seems to be a lot of settings for hamachi for securing thing, you should go fiddle with them

EDIT 2 : and I just saw you said you deleted if from starting, so just do what I said about disabling the network card, and be sure to uninstall it, there may be a windows service remaining

Uninstalled Hamachi, wasn't using it anymore anyway.(I used it for minecraft over a year ago) but it hasn't caused any issue at all so far, so I have some doubts about it being the culprit but worth the try.

New ipconfig and the route print:

I'll go play some more on Solace and wait to get disconnected again. But that might take a few hours to happen(Or if this somehow fixed it, it won't do it at all Smile )

Much cleaner that config.
if you get some "unable to resolve" a google dns name, then I don't know what's going on, more investigation will be needed.

Well, it happened again :(
Noticed this in my client logs:

Massive amounts of unkown tags, like hundreds if not thousands per client. Though that may just have to do with it being unable to resolve it.
Starting to wonder if I should just make a support ticket instead, perhaps they can see anything on their side.

tag warning are there, but is there a link between that and your network issue? that's only for CCP devs to see.

and sure, make a bug report, that's right thing to do, test server are here for testing and giving feedback, and they need bug report to get logs or something

when you said 'it happened again, can you be more precise? : disconnection, dns resolving issue, pc getting isolated from local network ?

Is this always happening, while you have the beta launcher open? Or is it also happening when the beta launcher is closed?

Anyway: Please send a bug report about this including as much info as possible.

These "unknown tags" log lines in the last screenshots are very likely harmless and unrelated - probably just some window (market?) complaining about some content.

All of the above Lol
But I'll make a bug report now so I guess I'll see where it goes from there.

Since today the Beta Launcher crashed after 5-10 minutes, I had it closed and it still happened.

Seems like the problem is limited to Singularity/Solace, have played a lot on TQ for more than 10 hours at a time without any trouble, including fleets. However starting up Singularity today crashed my network in the same way within ~5 seconds of logging in. About 35 mins into Solace it happened as well.
Guess no test servers for me anymore Lol
