I am literally at a loss for words on how to get going with this game. Day 1 i spent roughly have a day just exploring space and lost my ship a good 5-6 times lol

I am going to start doing the Tutorial missions to get going and see where that gets me. If there is anyone that would be willing to teach me in game it would be much appreciated. I understand the learning cliff to this game is probably going to cause some hair loss but i'll take any advice i can get.

I think i know alot of the basics with the UI but still need to find a good way to earn ISK without getting blown up!

Plenty of new player groups ready to help out a new pilot (plug: including one I run myself, drop me a line for more info if interested), but ultimately being a sandbox, it is entirely up to you where you want to go in this game.

I have a few tips I recommend to new players looking to get into the game:

1) Forget 99% of what you've learned in other MMOs.

2) Complete the tutorial, thoroughly. Don't skim through it like other MMOs, or else you're making it 100x harder to get over the learning curve.

3) When tutorial missions complete, don't ask yourself "What am I supposed to do now?". Instead, ask "What do I want to do now?" Asking yourself this question can make a MAJOR difference in how you approach the game for the future.

4) When you answer #3, research a bit into what you decided to do and go after it.

5) Look at joining a corporation. There are tons of corporations that will help new players, and finding people that have the same interests in you in the game can also make a world of difference. Filter by career paths, play times, areas of occupation, etc to find what works best for you.

6) Don't let other bring you down. A lost ship to a suicide gank, or because you made a wrong turn into low sec when you weren't ready isn't a total loss. Majority of Eve players are friendly and helpful. If you get ganked, ask the guy that blew your ship up how he found you, how you could've escaped, etc. Learn from mistakes.

7) Don't ever, ever, ever, ever, EVER undock what you can't afford to lose.

Joining faction warfare 45 minutes after starting is fairly brave! What made you take that decision? It makes you a valid target for a lot of people, which may explain why you've been shot at a lot.

You might want to leave the militia for a short while and do the tutorial missions. I'm all for new recruits, but it's a fairly harsh PvP environment, and I'd recommend joining a FW Corp once you know how your ship works.

hahaha honestly i was like "this sounds cool" not even realizing what it had meant. i was planning of leaving that as soon as i got on tonight.

From what i've seen i need to join some kind of player corp probably suited for newer players like me like Tyrendian had suggested.

Hello Mr Boirelle!

If you want to do your own thing for a while then gimme a poke ingame and I'll be happy to come to you, help you with tutorials, low-level missions, mining and other basics while answering any general questions you have. I'm not active all that often on this character, but if you drop me a message I'll make a time to be on. I can also drag you into a couple of good help channels ingame that aren't as overwhelming as the rookie help chan.

Otherwise the best advice has been posted already - join a newbie friendly corp, where you'll have others all around you that you can dump questions on or ask to come fly with you. Take your time with the tutorials, enjoy the journey and don't worry too much about reaching the destination as there really isn't one in EVE. And uh, yeah, might wanna rethink Militia service so early. Smile

No worry, loss is part of EvE, ships are disposables ... keep it cheap, watch your wallet, don't go all-in and you'll be fine and mistakes (which are a necessity to learn) don't hurt.

Welcome to EvE, be curious, be brave, be open minded.

This is particularly good advice.

The meat of the content here is player interaction and in my experience the majority of the bloodthirsty savages are actually quite approachable people and often (though not necessarily) somewhat altruistic when it comes to plucky newbros who can take being poked at.

One common early goal is to get money. It's always necessary one way or another, so at some point it will need to be integrated into your plan and patterns. Maybe now, maybe not yet. But when you do, here's some basic orientation tips:

You can either get money from players(such as via trade), or by extracting it from the game itself(mission rewards, loyalty points, bounties). It's easy to focus on the latter at the expense of the former when you're new, but keep both in mind.

As an example, you've blown up some NPC pirates, and picked up a bit of anonymous-looking loot from it. Side note: If you don't know what it is, you don't need it. Better to get ISK out of it. Moving on...

You could try shipping that loot to a nearby trade hub - in the systems of Amarr, Jita, or Rens for example. These are stations where players congregate to sell bulk product to one-another.

You will see that when you go to sell the stuff in your hold, you have two basic options: Sell now to a pre-existing player buy-order, or post it up for sale as a sell-order. Player buyers are looking to get items cheaper than if he bought it from a player who's got their item listed right now, so you consider taking the more profitable route. Create a sell order for each of your items. Note the cheapest price in the current station, and make it slightly cheaper than that. This ensures that the next individual coming by will buy yours, resulting in perhaps 50% more isk gained than if you sold it immediately.

This process isn't always the most time(and therefore money-) efficient, but as a knowledge-gaining exercise, it's time well spent.

The takeaway here is that there's not really any NPC vendors to offload your junk to, who magically turn it to bits of gold like in other games. Rather, you've got only other people to deal with. It's a microcosm of the rest of Eve, in a way. ;)

Personally, once I became comfortable with the market, it's behaviors, and peoples' behaviors, I made all my income via trading on the side while I pursue other interests. I found it far more engaging than shooting at NPCs.

So, yep, just another one of the things to check out as you get your feet wet in Eve. Keep reading about what's out there, and good luck.

Typically having one person show you everything is not a good idea. Eve is a game of exploration as well as networking. So make friends be it in a player corp or finding chat channels or just having a contact list of buddies.

The concept is that you play around with the game and try figuring stuff out and when you come to a stumbling block you ask one of your friends that is online.

That being said if you would like me to walk you through some things or just ask me a laundry list of questions then send me an in game mail and I'll try to log on and convo you. This is a forum alt for me so if you don't ask me to log over you'll never see me on.

took the advice and joined a player corp. Was actually extremely helpful and helped me to get to where i could start buying better frigates. Training and learning so i can be able to run missions with a fleet in the corp.

Gonna take some time to decide what role i want to play in the game but all the advice was alot of help. I'll hit some of the people who posted on here for future reference. Always good to have friends.

Day 1 - Blew up 6 times
Day 2- Not a scratch :)

Don't worry about that too much.
You can get back up to 6 per day in no time if you set your mind to it.

Heya Mister!

My "ways"? Well, uhh I wake up in the morning, cook breakfast for my cousin Savi and I. Something high in protein with plenty of energy, eggs and juice are great, maybe a Banana. Takes around thirty minutes to do my braids, another thirty to do hers. Check our comm mails for orders from our sponsor. If the day is ours then we slip into the capsule and off we go to run some combat anoms or low-level missions, say hi to everyone in local where we go and introduce ourselves, offer help if needed.

We operate out of Matari space, Ryddinjorn to be exact, in conjunction with a group of Achur sisters who conduct mining operations there. A lovely little rookie system. Though we sometimes travel to the rookie systems of other cultures too. We're a little cautious when visiting Amarrian space though, of course.

If someone wants some direct help and contacts us then we'll travel to them, spend a couple hours running missions with them, talking and giving general advice and tips about life in space or answer any questions they got about our world here. We have some friends who're miners too and do highsec mining along with a little wormhole diving, we can hook new pilots up with that too to earn some easy starting money, and give them their first taste of Anoikis while (hopefully) not dying in the process.

After all that it's back to Ryddinjorn station. Shower off all the pod goo, of course, slip into something comfy and fix dinner for my cousin and I. Maybe spend a while on the comm talking to friends, or doing a little reading. It's great to learn something new every day! Then it's time for bed, I love to sing, Mister, so I usually sing some Matari lullabies for my cousin until she's sound asleep before I clean up the quarters and hit the bunk myself.

And that's my "ways".

Go back into an NPC corp, do the tutorials, *then* go shopping for a newbie-friendly player corp to join.

Good luck!
